Bullard Linked With Canaries
Bullard Linked With Canaries
Thursday, 26th May 2011 08:44

Town loan star Jimmy Bullard is a summer target of newly-promoted Norwich City, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. The Blues are keen to recruit the Hull City man on a permanent basis, but boss Paul Jewell has admitted that with the midfielder having two years left on his £45,000-a-week contract at Hull it would be a difficult deal for the club to do.

Premier League QPR, Wigan and now-relegated West Ham have all previously been mentioned in connection with the 32-year-old, who recently went on a short holiday to Spain with a number of Town team-mates, including Connor Wickham, and has said on a number of occasions that if a deal could be done, he’d love to stay at Portman Road.

Hull's head of football operations Adam Pearson said last week that his club was yet to receive any enquiries regarding the one-time England call-up, while some reports have suggested that the Blues and other sides may look to take Bullard on loan next season if the Tigers are willing to enter into that sort of deal.

Bullard was named Town’s Player of the Year after a hugely successful loan spell in which he scored five goals in 16 games.

The Canaries are also claimed to be eyeing Everton striker James Vaughan, who spent much of last season on loan at Crystal Palace and is also believed to be interesting Town.

Meanwhile, former Blues academy schoolboy keeper Nick Pope, 19, has joined League One Charlton Athletic from Bury Town on a two-year contract after impressing for the Ryman Premier League club.

Elsewhere, ex-Town striker Shefki Kuqi has been released after his short stint back in the Premier League with Newcastle United.

There was better news for another former Blues frontman with Blackpool taking up an option to keep Billy Clarke for a further season. The Irishman spent this campaign on the sidelines with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

The Seasiders have released ex-Town loanee Marlon Harewood, while Marcus Bent has left Birmingham City.

The man has to much class to do the dirty on us. Unlike the t055er lee.

Its up to Hull really and for us to see if Jimmy is a man of his word.
As already said, can't blame him if he did.
Lets hope we can strike a deal with him.

Never.

Don't they offer smaller wages than us?

Maybe this goes against the majority, but I'm not that fussed if Bullard joins us. We need to be building for the future and he is not it. Whatever deal we arrange with Hull, it will be too expensive for an injury prone player coming to the end of his career and we can use the money more effectively elsewhere. Dyer is a different case because he will presumably come on the cheap; otherwise the same argument applies to him.

As to him signing for Nodge, who cares? Let them spunk their PL funds on him. On past history he is unlikely to stay fit enough to make a difference.

You are a funny lot, why on earth shouldn't Jimmy go there, because they are our rivals?! Get real! A chance of Prem footy at this stage of his career, he'd be mad not to take it.

Yep - no surprise there - Makes a difference in any Champ/Mid table Premteam- despite his knees - Him going on his hols to Magaluf with his team mates is abit of a tradition - Cant really see CW being here next season to be honest ..anyway if he does go good luck to him - Helped keep us in the division this season

It genuinely amazes me if anyone is surprised with this. Or, indeed, they would moan.

A Premiership class player is linked with a Premiership club.

All footballers are mercenaries, so Jimmy will go wherever he gets the best deal, regardless of what he says in public. Don't think a few months with us will stop him joining Norwich if they give him what he wants - i.e. big wage and Premier league football. Let's not be naive, cash is what matters

@ Wallinford and Surrey agree with you both he is 32, if he gets 1 final shot at Premiership and its with Norwich so be it...I think he made a massive difference last season but its not our divine right to sign him..modern day footballers are detached from the realities of life and after 2 matches we will have forgotten him and moved on to the next one...next link please..Pele to Ipswich

Also, a big risk for us and anyclub on a perm deal

His time at town - a fair few games out and also the knee "flammed up" after half a season!

Sometimes the rivalry goes too far, I think if he had played for us for a few seasons we could have a problem with him considering Norwich, but he was only he for 16 games. Wouldnt blame him.

The supporters who take it too far have a big responsibility in ITFC not getting to the play off's in 2002/3 when ANDY MARSHALL was in goal.

The boo boys only served to dismantle his confidence leading to lost points. We missed out on the playoffs by 4 points in the season we enetered admin.

OUCH! That hurts!

To be fair, can't blame him if they're offering similar/more wages and premier league football.

The worst thing will be the gloating from our feathered friends.

to the person who said Norwich pay less than us- I am sure they will readdress their wage structure now they are in the promised land....
Best of luck to Bullard if he goes there. He should think of his own career first and I think Norwich will do well next year in the Premiership (no reason why not). We seem to be in freefall....if PJ manages to make a number of good signings that might make Bullard look at the situation again.
If you were a professional footballer and you could play against Chelsea/Man Utd etc or play against Brighton etc which would you do?
