Clegg: Swans Tried to Renegotiate Deal
Clegg: Swans Tried to Renegotiate Deal
Saturday, 25th Jun 2011 08:58

Town chief executive Simon Clegg says Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has been trying to renegotiate the terms of Tamás Priskin’s loan deal ever since the striker moved to the Liberty Stadium in March. The Blues have asked the Premier League to place a transfer embargo on the Swans after they failed to pay £300,000 — wages plus a £160,000 bonus due after their promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs - relating to the Hungarian’s loan spell.

Clegg said: “I am absolutely fuming — this is no way to do business. Mr Jenkins has been trying to renegotiate this deal virtually from the moment he signed it.

“There is no room for misinterpretation — the contract is completely unambiguous.”

Swansea’s failure to pay appears to relate to the knee injury Priskin suffered in training in late April which meant he was unable to add to his four sub appearances and one goal before the deal ended on May 31st.

But Clegg says this is no excuse: “Tamás went there a perfectly fit player and was injured while under their care. That’s football, but contracts must be honoured.

“There is a considerable sum of money involved but they are refusing to pay our invoices and have left me with no alternative but to report them. I expect the Premier League to move very quickly on this and instruct Swansea to pay up.”

Swansea chief Jenkins claimed to know nothing of the dispute in a statement last night.

Seems like a clear cut case. However I do wonder why it has gone so public - an attempt to rehabilitate Clegg in the eyes of Town fans?

by going public it puts Swansea in a panic - the more the story goes on the worst they look and it doens't bode well for them when trying negotiate these deals again, especially as they will need to sign a fair few players to stay in the prem.

This Jenkins character appears to like a dispute (Believe I read he fell out with PJ when at Derby)! Seems like Clegg is in the right here - can't see ME and Clegg going into this lightly, they must feel the contract is 100% correct.

Poor Ipswich, trying to scrape money out of nothing. Yeah, we'll probably end up paying you the pathetic fee of about £500,000, but that's not going to make a difference to the money we've got, or the players we're signing. Poor poor Ipswich, so pathetic. WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE! (and so are Norwich btw..)

Swansea

Why come on here and be aggressive? Well done on reaching the PL, but if you owe us money, you owe us money! It's a bit like agreeing and signing a contract for me to pay you £20.00. You wouldn't be overly happy if I didn't pay would you?

SWANSEA - no £300k or whatever it is might not make a blind bit of differences to the Swansea coffers, but a transfer embargo willl....
without being able to sign anyone in the pre-season means you might have to wait until january to get anyone... by the way... enjoy the 12-0 drubbings youll get from arsenal, chelsea, man utd etc...

1st question Why does Clegg need to look in a good light? He has done nothing wrong as far as I know....and I am pretty sure if all these unsubstantiated claims a lot of morons have said on here were true ME would have got rid of him. It went public to get the money owed us as they weren't responding to our invoices....

2nd To the Swansea supporter we are a business we are owed money by your club....who have failed to pay their bill..... If the roles were reversed I would be to ashamed to go onto your website trying to give it large. We want our money....it's the principal rather than the cash. But no we won't let you pay it in sexually abused sheep of which I am told there a lot of in Wales....we want the cash.....

SWANSEA

I used to like your football club.

Sadly you seem to have Arthur Daley running your club and thick moppets like you supporting it.

Your club will be going down in most football fans estimation.

Well done SWANSEA.

Look what you can achieve in such a short space of time.

Well said from ,king chopra, jas0999 and wicked blue. Its a simple thing they owe money from an agreement and should pay up, the size of the debt is irrelevant . How dare that wooly question us? Stay in wales, they should nt even be allowed to play in the english premier league , come to think of it, why are they in an english league?
Anyone? COYB

FAO Swansea:

If you think for a second Ipswich fans will envy the fact you have reached the premier league for the first time in your history that much then you are very much mistaken chap. We've achieved more in our proud history than you ever will so enjoy your 10 months in the limelight because it wont last, and you don't seem to be gaining any respect in the process either.

Secondly, you have to live in Wales. It's a horrible county and probably the worst part of England i've been to.

Swansea - You are a plonker. As someone once said "be careful how you treat others on your way to the top, because you will never know who your are going to meet again on your way back down." And you will be coming back down.
