Reo-Coker Leaves Town
Saturday, 12th Jan 2013 17:54

Manager Mick McCarthy has revealed that midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has left the club at the end of his short-term contract. The former Wimbledon, West Ham, Aston Villa and Bolton man wanted a longer contract than the Blues were prepared to offer.

McCarthy left the 28-year-old out of the squad for today’s game and confirmed that he had left the club: “He’s not staying. I spoke to Nigel yesterday. Fair play to him he came in suited and booted and ready to go with the team."

The Town boss says the Blues were only prepared to offer terms to the end of the season with the player wanting a deal beyond that: “He wants a longer term contract, which I understand, I think he might have some other offers.

"I said fine, if that's the case, go home and I'll go with the other lads that we've got."

McCarthy says he was happy with Reo-Coker while he was at the club: “He’s been great, he’s been great around the place."

Perfect Approach from the club, hasn't done enough to warrant anything longer and I'm happy we'll now be looking to the market this week for a perm replacement or 2!

Great result today!

Never looked that "interested" on the pitch to me. Thought Hyam and N'Daw did well today, Drury a good backup option. If we lack anything in CM its a bit of creativity and NRC hasnt shown a lot of that. At the end of the day we've had better players, had much worse players. Thanks NRC good lucm and goodbye.

agree with the above. hyams as good and we need better service to our attackers so money better spent on forward thinking midfielders no t side ways play was he leadbitter in disguise i ask

Glad to see one of Jewell's desperate signings leave. A football Mercinary - whom cares so little for our club, and more his wage packet, that I'll be glad to see him go.

I trust MM will bring in a hungry, fitter - ready to go Midfeild replacement IF he chooses to bring in another Midfielder.

Hyam, Drury and N'Daw are good enough to fight it out for the 2 posiitons in my book though.... If anything - a more creative, passer with vision of bursting forward is what we're craving, not a defensive tackling general - which is more the mold of all od the above 3.

Any ideas for a creative attack minded Midfielder?

could only pass side ways or back, not enough vision

Creative central midfielders - O'hara is probably out of our price range, Fahey seems a good shout, I also like Dale Stephens at Charlton

Best of luck to him. But its better for our club. Felt he brought nothing to our team. Hungrier players required. MM you doing brill man.

I think we should have a look at Stephen Gleeson at Mk Dons, he's the kind of player we need.

Good luck to him but no real great loss. Would like to see the club bring in a flair player who has the ability to unlock defences. Only snag is that these players tend to be pricey and tend to be snapped up...maybe look abroad
