Reo-Coker Set for Whitecaps
Sunday, 17th Feb 2013 15:10

Former Blues midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker is close to joining MLS side the Vancouver Whitecaps, according to reports in Canada.

The 28-year-old, who left Portman Road after failing to agree new terms at the end of his three-month deal in January, has long been mentioned in connection with a move to North American with his wife hailing from New York. The New York Red Bulls and Portland Timbers were both previously linked.

Another former Blue, Jaime Peters, was recently on trial with the Whitecaps but failed to win a contract.

Meanwhile, Joe Whight was an unused sub for his new loan club Chelmsford City on Saturday as the Clarets lost 1-0 at Eastleigh, ex-Blues academy scholar Jai Reason netting the only goal from the penalty spot.

Ronan Murray came on as a 69th minute sub for his loan side Plymouth as they lost 1-0 at home to Oxford United.

Murray, who like Whight is out of contract at the end of the season, has made three starts in addition to yesterday’s appearance from the bench since moving to Home Park in January.

Seems like the perfect choice, I'm sure they'll pay him well and he can pick up an easy paycheck playing well within himself in the mls. His planet-sized ego will most likely be well massaged being a big fish in a small pond too.

Have to be honest - while I don't like to be purely negative about anyone who represents our club, it's virtually impossible to think of anything positive Reo-Coker did for Ipswich Town. I thought Bowyer was an overpaid has-been who never delivered, but he still did better than this bloke.

We've made some bad signings over the years, but I can't think of any in recent seasons who played as many games yet delivered so little.

Fat , lazy , slow and culdnt move more than 5 yards from the centre spot - Ohh I still remember Palace and Leicester away - too painful - Those days seems ALONG time ago
Nice city Vancouver - at 28 this is a really sad decline for someone who showed promise about 5 years ago - Waste

Yet another poor PJ signing. Simply didn't look as though he cared, but wasn't match fit. Shocking he was signed part season and so far away from match fitness.

Further away from the Championship the better

Agree with most of the posts on here but I would say it is hard to agree this is the worst signing given he was only signed for 3 months. No bones broken for us now he has gone. Players who stayed longer and took more money but under performed did more harm. Priskin perhaps.

I live in the Vancouver area and just to let everyone know the standard in MLS is very good now. As a supporter of ITFC and a follower of the Whitecaps, I agree that it will never be the same passion as the English game but some of the talent over here is as good as anything in the championship. Personally I would much rather have Peters than Reo-Coker

Got to say it doesn't bode well for our fringe players when they are out on loan at lower league clubs and still can't get a start!

daniel, i have to say i agree, but lets not forget we are a struggling lower half championship team. Who have just bought, hopefully a midfield playmaker from a struggling lower half league 1 team.
Lets not forget just where we are,

That tells me that the "Reo-Coker linked to West Brom" story was probably made up by his agent in order to sniff out other offers which have not materialised. Biggest waste of space in a town shirt for the last 5 years. So good he has gone into football semi-retirement as no one in this country will touch him with a barge pole for the money he wants.

NoCanariesAllowed - 'overpaid has been who never delivered' is slightly harsh I think.

Reo-Coker...strange that a signing that was met by so much pleasure and excitement could turn out do badly. Seemingly never got fully fit and basically just didn't add anything we needed or didn't have already. Him and N'Daw would never have worked as a partnership, and N'Daw was/is the better of the two, simple (similar to how it is with N'Daw and Hyam now).

I do think he got some unwarranted abuse, even in games where he went about his business perfectly. I think most fans just expected so much more, and after his famous 'this will never happen again' speech after Palace , then it inevitably happening again at Leicester, fans just turned.

Reo Coker was a very average signing for us, but nowhere near our worst.
Reminded me of a cross between Adam Proudlock and Amir Karic (neither of which did much for us either).

Walked around a bit too much. Whenever we conceded he also just seemed to give up.

Thought Ellington was a worse signing though. How many strikers have we signed in the past who never scored a goal?

MLS = to good for Reo-Coker.

Dale you need to learn some basic geography. There is no continent of America. The IS a continent called North America, one called South America, and if you put them together they are called "the Americas". Vancouver is located in Canada, which is in North America. Just remember -
Never call a Scotsman an Englishman
Never call a New Zealander an Australian
Never, ever, call a Canadian an American

However, if you want to be on the receiving end of a sound thrashing carry one.

Of course, that last line should read

"However, if you want to be on the receiving end of a sound thrashing - carry on"
