Wycombe's Grant Joins Yeovil
Wednesday, 26th Jun 2013 16:14

Newly-promoted Yeovil Town have announced that Blues target Joel Grant has agreed to join them on a two-year deal.

Grant, whose contract at Wycombe Wanderers is up at the end of the month, is understood to have been offered terms by Town, while League Two Portsmouth were also amongst the other interested clubs.

Speaking on Monday, manager Mick McCarthy played down his interest in Grant and Blackpool's out-of-contract defender Kirk Broadfoot.

Meanwhile, ex-Blue Nathan Ellington is training with Crewe Alexandra as he looks to extend his stay with the Railwaymen. The 31-year-old spent the final couple of months of last season at Gresty Road having been exited Town by mutual consent in January.

Elsewhere, ex-Town loanee Liam Rosenior has agreed a two-year extension to his contract with newly-promoted Hull City.

perhaps he thinks Yeovil will do better than town perhaps we cant compete financially with yeovil perhaps we have that poor a budget that we cant attract league 2 players perhaps we are more in debt than us fans realise

IF? we had offered him a terms, and he then chose to to join Yeovil town as opposed to joining ITFC! There surely has to be some thing wrong with either the grey brain cells under the silly hair cut or Yeovil made him an offer he could not refuse ie , large bags of dosh either way it can be most stupid thing any up and coming footballer could possibly do!
If? we had offered him a deal and he turned us down .................well the mans an IDIOT! and not wanted here, we already have one of those which we do not seem to be able to give away, anyone wanna buy a raffle ticket for a useless gambling striker? ? ?

Looking on the Yeovil website,, it seems that Grant was going there from day 1, Because he had been following them for a while, like going to there semi final and then Wembley, also talking to there manager in the meantime. So good luck to him !!!!
As long as we contain him when we play them ?????

Well, I'm not that bothered by this news. As others said, we probably weren't even in for him.

And I watched some of his youtube footage. Hmmm...falls over a lot doesn't he.

IF we offered him terms but couldnt compete with Yeovil then we have bigger problems than we thought!

h32, I quite agree with your initial post on this story. The more deluded supporters on here already seem to think we will be a force next season, but, the current squad wont have a cat in hell,s chance of promotion without adding some quality in key positions & right now I just can,t see were these players are going to come from. I,m not advocating spending silly money on fees & wages but at least we need to be competitive. The squad is desperately short of creativity & hard work/organisation will not be enough. I just hope big Mick has a few irons in the fire as I would love to be proved wrong.

pinewoodblueboy, organisation and hardwork took us up the table last season. If you don't concede goals you pick up points, check the stats under MM.We have one of the best managers in the division,MM knows the situation at the club and appears confident that we will compete, like last season. We have two creative players in AW and Taylor.

......... as long as a Football is kicked at Portman Road, a percentage of ITFC Supporters will be happy and content - Could that be one of the reasons WE have been in the Championship for 12 odd years ??????

Maybe the Club in general has found it's level - sad (for people like me) but maybe true.

Laughable the panic shown by some on here about the fact that we haven't signed a player who most of us had never heard of and who we were probably never after anyway. Remember for every signing we make we will have a dozen such spurious links. Take a breath and trust our manager to sign the players he thinks we need to do well in this division. The signings will happen and we will be happy with our team when the season starts, just chill out and don't get sucked into this pre-season delirium.

We were never after him. Far too big a step up from Wycmobe to Ipswich.

Plenty more hungry, talented players out there who would love to join us. Nothing to worry about.

He wants to play football regularly - cannot fault him for that. There is no evidence we were actually in for him.

Fair play. Beyond Tiverton, Taunton and Bath there are few bigger places to play in Somerset. Also given the slope at Huish Park he'll be pretty fast in attack for 45 minutes of every game. Key factors when you consider he's the wrong side of 25.

h32,the only thing sad about the club is we have people like you, going on and on about the good old days.Get real, football is a business now and clubs are run accordingly.

In my opinion, this is what's happened:

MM has said, 'Grant, you'll be a squad player like any other player in my squad and you'll be picked on your own merits'

Johnson has said, 'Grant, you'll be a first choice for me on the left'.

Sadly Grant, like so many footballers has looked at that and taken the easy option. If that is the case, and I feel it is, it smacks of what riddles football. A lack of ambition, fight, desire and determination to be the best you can be.

No doubt Johnson is going to have to say this in order to entice people to Yeovil. I've played at Huish park on a number of occasions so know the club well and there is no way they can compete with us so get a grip H32! No-ones burying heads. This one is down to the player not our monetary offer I'm sure. Whatever he would have been offered would have been more than what he was on.

Not sure when you were last at Huish Park Bluedandy but that slope has long gone. Nice little ground...for league 2!! No way near big enough for the championship!!

Suffolkpunch and walktheline........very true. H32 some of what you write is indeed also very true. I'm not thinking for one moment we have the team anywhere near that of the late 70's/early 80's or even Burleys side. Also settling for a mediocre side with mediocre skill and talent is not going to get us promoted or be successful. However the state of the club is what it is, and the fact remains we have, judging by the end of last season, a squad that is finally going to be able to compete this year. And I for one,
am relatively optimistic and pleased about it!!!! COYB.

No point getting too frustrated about this one. Not too sure there was anything too concrete with the rumours. In Mick we trust! COYB!

what is with the complete over reaction to a non story?! we used to get 5 or 6 of these "player choses other club" stories every week when PJ was in charge. :)

I think its safe to say that we didn't offer anything concrete so no need to panic. Not like we have missed out on the next Messi because we haggled over a £20 a week goal bonus.

Relax, let Mick go about his business quietly (as he always does) and see how the squad looks in August. COYB

Hilarious to see the doom and gloom merchants hitting the panic button over signings when it's not even July yet.

The signing of Jay Tabb proves that we can attract players over other clubs; Grant (if we ever did offer him anything) probably wanted regular first team football, which he would likely get at Yeovil and which could not be promised here.
