Marriott Set for Gillingham

Blues striker Jack Marriott is set to join League One Gillingham on loan. The 19-year-old's spell with Skrill Premier Woking ended today with manager Mick McCarthy keen for the frontman to gain some Football League experience having scored nine goals in nine games for the Cards.

If the paperwork goes through in time, Marriott could make his debut for the Kent club in Friday's home game against Wolves.

Town right-back Elliott Hewitt is also on loan with the Gills and is understood to be around a week away from returning to match action after suffering an ankle injury which curtailed his spell at the Priestfield Stadium after only three games early last month.

Excellent. I'm sure it was a useful exercise him going to Woking and playing with and against men in a game where 'proper' points are at stake but it would've made little sense him staying there for much longer as the standard really is a million miles off the Championship.

A step up to League 1 will be a proper test for him, I hope he comes through it well. His record so far suggests he has every chance.

Michael11 added 15:10 - Jan 2 This is a good move for him. Quite a big difference between League One and Conference, so we should get a better indication of how good he is there. Would have been nice to seen him play in the FA cup on Saturday though.

Mick McCarthy knows what he is doing. Although I understand that people want to see him play for us,this loan move will do him the world of good and a much tougher test than playing and scoring for a conference side. If he succeeds at gillingham then I suspect mick will seriously consider him starting for us. This is a step up in class though so will be interesting to see how he does against a decent Wolves side. Remember we have FIVE strikers at the club at the moment, so playing regular league games will be great for his development in my opinion.

Bergholtblue added 18:43 - Jan 2 Great man management by MM. If he goes he will go with lots of confidence, but it is a big step up. If the deal does go through, Wolves is a big game and I would be surprised if he comes straight into the side after little training with the squad. I think we will have to wait a bit longer to see him in the side.

1. Great for Jack & itfc. These buttons with rheumatoid arthritis bollix. My point is some think MM is lacks ambition. Sindre u are a culprit. MM is a v ambitious manager. Getting the best out of what he has at the moment. 6th spent f..k all. Let's appreciate where we are. Progress with no funds. I'm pissed as a fart. No disrepect to anyone. Forgive spelling errors. And hope we keep the level of improvement we have had.
