Town boss Mick McCarthy has revealed he pulled the plug on the deal he was hoping to complete before last night’s 11pm deadline with Leeds midfielder Paul Green understood to have been the target.

“It was just getting silly in terms of the amount of money they wanted for the wages,” McCarthy said.

“In the end I said ‘no, let him stay up there and sit in the stand and watch it, let them keep paying him, I’m not bothered’.”

McCarthy, who said he didn’t speak to the player himself, says he’ll look at bringing in another player next week: “The [emergency loan] window opens on Saturday and 93 days covers the rest of the season. Why break your heart?

“I said to club secretary Sally Webb go home, I don’t keep you at work. I’m not going to answer my phone any more.”

I say good on you, Mick. Here's hoping we can get someone in with the right attitude once the loan window opens.

I personally thinks its a lucky escape. Green was very good 5/6 years ago but certainly not the player he was. Mick does seem to like the experienced players though so can't really argue with his choice of player to date.
