Blues Rebuff Boro Bid for Murphy Claim
Wednesday, 10th Jun 2015 10:40

Middlesbrough are reported to have had a £2.5 million offer for striker Daryl Murphy turned down by the Blues, while newly-relegated Burnley and Fulham are also said to have joined the clubs interested in Town’s 27-goal Championship top scorer.

According to this morning’s Irish Sun the Blues have rebuffed a Boro bid for the 32-year-old, who is currently with the Ireland squad ahead of Saturday’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland in Dublin.

Murphy, who was linked with Hull City in January, is also claimed to be on Burnley manager Sean Dyche’s three-man shortlist of potential replacements for Danny Ings, who has joined Liverpool, while the Cottagers are also said to have joined Cardiff City - who were recently reported to have Murphy top of their summer wish list - in making their interest in the former Waterford, Sunderland Celtic man known to Town.

Manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans have both said they are determined to keep hold of the Blues' key players this summer, while Murphy has repeatedly stated that he has no intention of leaving Town as he and his family are settled in Suffolk.

The Irishman signed a new contract with Town last July, which has another year left to run. However, contrary to this morning’s report, it’s unlikely that Murphy would be a free agent next summer with that deal also including an option for the Blues to extend it for a further season.

Think any bid of £4m+ has to be considered due to his age - provided a replacement is already lined up. Don't want to leave ourselves short up front, particularly as Murph's aerial power is vital for our style of football.

Why would he disrupt his family to join another championship team? Jog on the lot of you

If we sell him to another championship team it will show a big lack of ambition. I hope he stays but i fear he will go to the big spenders.

I love Murphy, he seems super loyal... He kept coming back season after season during our dark times, and has been a real prodigy to our resurgence. Players like him and chambers have done so much to restore trust from the fans in ITFC and for that I say he is simply priceless

Boro , Burnley - Two of the worst towns in England - sorry - but they are grim - Suffolk beats em all - Murph loves it BUT you do wonder what bid might get his and our attention ?
Nice to be wanted - Funny that Dids was an £8m man only few months back ?

They have looked at the lack of punishment for QPR and thought sod it lets just spend what we want.

We need to build for another push investment is the key,we need a right back another striker Darren Bent would have been a great signing alas we have allowed Derby to sign him for free. Its okay keeping our best players but they need help in other areas if we are to be serious contenders for promotion next season.

We need to give Murphs another year on his current deal now otherwise I wouldn't blame him if he felt the need to move on to get a better deal.

We faff around far too much at times wihen it comes to sorting out our best players' contracts.

Blueherts - people would also say Ipswich isn't the best town. Suffolk is lovely, but so is the Ribble Valley and areas of North Yorks. Especially on a footballers budget.

This will probably be his last decent offer as a professional footballer, so if they offer double/treble what we can - he might be tempted.

I think we are close to a promotion challenge, and need to show a little more ambition and spend more this season in wages to keep our best players and in adding some quality especially on the wings - If we fail in promotion then Marcus Evans can use the same workaround as most other Championship clubs or if not sell Mings/Bishop to break even.

People are too tied down with the 'age' factor. He excelled at 31? Can he go one better next season? Course he can.

If a prem club comes in for him, or the offer is £5m+ then sell.

If not then keep him. Don't care if he could improve his wages at another champ club, he signed an improved contract last summer, so its our choice not his. Am sure hes on very good wages.

Hope he stays.

Anything >3m is great business!

Why not sell. Of course you wouldn't want to, but the reality is that to buy we have to generate additional income.

If MM can find another free or minimal fee player then great.

Have to say, DM is a very, very, good player and would be a great loss.

I don't think the 4 million that Cardiff are said to be willing to offer is enough for Murphy, let alone 2.5 million. He might be 32, but he top scored in the league last season, 2.5 million is derisory

Need to keep key players . a number of our competition are making signings already or trying to , hopefully we will not leave it to last minute panic signings and loans like last year to save on wages over the summer !! and then have a dreadful first month to the season due to players needing to gel or get up to match fitness

2.5 million. Moving his family from Ipswich to Middlesbrough. Funniest joke ive heard all day.

2.5 million might buy his right foot, then we could keep his left foot at town and re-invest the money on other players

Murph, Sears and Mcg will be a brilliant front 3 next season that any team will fear. We must keep him.

I just can't see ANY truth in this, and if they have bid then they must be desperate. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a very good player at this level, but has at most two top seasons left in him, and if you look at his career stats, last year was a bit of an anomaly. I'm sure he will play very well again next year, but it'd be asking a lot to expect more than 20 goals again.

So in sum, 2.5m is too little for such an important player for us, and it is too much for a 32-year old.

Top Championship Scorer with bags of experience in this league are how much in demand? He's on the top of his game, brimming with confidence, an International....I wouldn't sell at any price and I'd be very surprised if we do, I hope all this isn't unsettling him though..

I say any price, ok, I'll be generous and release him for £6m.....that's a jog on price tag given his age no doubt, I would like to think he's still got three seasons left in him given the type of player he is..
