McGoldrick Joins Bishop on Sidelines But Skuse Fit to Face Rams
Friday, 18th Dec 2015 14:13

Town striker David McGoldrick is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering what manager Mick McCarthy says is a “nasty tear” to his hamstring, while Teddy Bishop continues to be frustrated by his hamstring problems, but better news is that Cole Skuse will be OK to face Derby tomorrow despite breaking his nose at Fulham in midweek.

“He’s got quite a nasty tear in his hamstring so he’ll be out for a while,” McCarthy revealed regarding McGoldrick, who picked up the injury in training ahead of Tuesday’s 2-1 win at Craven Cottage.

“He’s had an awful year, it’s very unfortunate and it was so innocuous. He just went to backheel a pass to somebody and pulled up.

“You couldn’t imagine that he would have done the damage to his hamstring that he has just by doing that.

“Very sad, very tough for him, he’s going to be missing for quite a while but on the other side of that we’ve just signed Luke Varney today so that’s a replacement, a body to come in and we’re back to four strikers again, which is great. But we’ll miss Didzy.”

Skuse was replaced at half-time against the Cottagers but McCarthy says he’ll be fine to take up his central midfield role against the Rams: “Skusey will be fine, he’s fit and he’ll be playing tomorrow. He’s sat out of training just to protect it for now.

“He’ll be OK, I think he’ll have to have it repaired next week. There’s a queue to do that for him, by the way!”

The Town boss says no one else has suffered any other injuries, aside from Ryan Fraser, who picked up a minor knock in training.

“Ryan Fraser got a kick on his calf and I’m hoping that he’ll be OK but we’ll see,” McCarthy added. “He’s just pulled up this morning, it was starting to tighten up. I think he’ll be all right to be involved. Other than that we’re OK.

Winger Larsen Touré has been out with a groin problem but McCarthy says the Guinean international isn’t far away from a return to the squad: “Larsen will be another couple of weeks, he had a really nasty groin injury.”

Having said that Teddy Bishop, who is yet to make a senior appearance this season, has been making progress in recent weeks, the Blues manager says the 19-year-old is continuing to be frustrated by his injury problems.

Asked whether the academy product might be involved over the Christmas period, McCarthy said: “No, his hamstring is still bothering him. When’s he likely to be back? How long is a piece of string?

“It’s very, very sad with him because he keeps getting back to a certain point where he comes out and trains.

“We’re very thorough, our physio department are excellent, Matt Byard and his team are great, and the docs. And we send him to the best specialists to get him looked at.

"So it’s very frustrating for him, very sad for him because he’s a talented player and very frustrating for the medical team and for me because I’ve got a fantastic young talent that I can’t select at the minute.”

One of our few players of real quality but he is rapidly turning into our Darren Anderton.

Jesus Christ, again ? What the hell has happened to his hamstrings, they're like pieces of wet string.

So sick note is out yet again! Can't see him featuring much more for us to he honest. Reckon we should've cashed in when we had the chance. Yes he's gifted but too much time on the treatment table plus he doesn't look overly interested when it's cold out.

Load of old cobblers. WHEN exactly did he sustain this injury? When came on arrival MK he touched the ball a couple of times, lost possession and made no effort are any point to run for a ball that was more than 2 feet in front of him.

The guy is a total sick note and waste of wages. Get rid.

The Sky commentator said Didz looked like he was running through treacle against MkDs.

I have issue with the word "run". Didsy never could run tbh , and certainly cant now since he had , what injury was it ? Oh yes, the knee .

I used to be a massive fan of this player , but now I sick of the adulation for one that has actually done so little for the Club in the last 2 years. There are better players than him in the team now .

You have got to feel for Didsy !! Euros approaching, worst possible time to pick up a serious lengthy injury.

I can see how Douglas/Skuse work well away, but for a home game I really think we need more creativity in that midfield. Some one likely to score a goal. Nice to see Varney back, but at 33 he's not really a long term option, but with McGoldrick out for some considerable time, it's good to have a striker options on the bench. Personally I'd dip into the loan market in January as I really do wonder if we will see Dids play for Town again.

Turning into a waste of time to me looks like he sulks he was our number 1 player but he knows others are favourites now seems its hard for him to take, expect down arrows but its only my thoughts

Shame... the last couple of seasons at least we've pretty much had the first half of the season out of him before his injury problems - we've hardly had that this year. He remains quality when he does feature, but as others have said, the injury frequency is worrying and frustrating.

Said it many a time that's why you get premier class players for free prone to injury thank god we didn't sign J.Williams he's always injured.
Fire those arrows Blue boy and Wartheline

A real shame as he is our most talented player - when he is fit of course. Apart from Fraser, who isn't ours, McGoldrick is our most giftted player.

I find the comments that state that we should have sold him last season a bit stupid - with hindsight you can say anything.

Also just because he doesn't run around all of the time it doesn't mean that he is not interested. He allows the ball to do all of the work rather than wasting energy when he doesn't have to.

Hope he gets fully fit soon.

Can't believe some of the negative comments against didzy. Does anyone actually think he wants to be injured. A great player who when fit gives his all. How come teddy bishop gets nothing but sympathy and didzy gets none.
I for one hope he gets as much time as bish to get back to full fitness and prove his worth.

Good grief..and to think Sir Bobby used a total of 14 players one season..some of these blokes are like a bunch of fairies.

Didsy had a shocking injury record at Forest. Why do people think they offloaded him to Coverntry ?

Its no use having all that skill/ potential if you are constantly injured. He is literally a watse of funds at this Club.

Im not syaing he has got skill and is probably the most gifted player on the books . But so what ? He never plays. Apart from his first seaosn here , he has done absoultely nothing . And whilst agree you dont have to run around like a headless chicken, you do need at least a modicom of ability to run for a ball placed 20 feet infront of. Didsy used to be able , but not anymore, so he doesnt now even try to run for the ball. Sorry , but I sadly feel his time at PR is drawing to a close . I dont care about down arrows , the stats regarding his appearances, injuries and goals over the last 2 years speaks for itself.

Injury or not even when fit McGoldrick has never been one for running around much. I really don't think we will see much more of him in a blue shirt especially if we are fortunate to get promoted this season. You couldn't justify spending wages on a player who barely features for half a season.

I hope his time isn't drawing to a close as I'd rather have him in the team than Varney. But I do understand where you're coming from.

@Lightningboy
Sir Bobby may well only used fourteen players but maybe thats why players back then retired to injury much more often or retired earlier than what they do now. Also when Sir Bobby was at Barca or Newcastle he certainly used the squad system and so moved with the times.

Just a shame the occurrence is all too rare - but that's expected from you anyway.

Well MM, a piece of string is twice as long from its Center to either end. Now please tell us when Teddy will be back? Is he being kept away from the first team squad due to injury or due to the poor attitude ppl associated with the club says he has?

Not all is as it seems with Teddy Bishop I fear.

Makes me smile when some people snipe at each other, whilst others have these conspiracy theories.
All clubs have injuries, just look at Arsenal, and a couple at least of their players could be considered sicknotes;similar to Ipswich.Style of football a bit different though.

However Micks teams playing style seems to be improving a bit this season;so hope we will be able to Derby a game tomorrow.

Darren Anderton.

In all honesty, we would have been better to lt him go to Leicester. I know it's hindsight, but........
