Fans Using Flares Face Bans
Friday, 16th Sep 2016 18:29

Town have warned that anyone caught throwing or in possession of a flare at Portman Road on a matchday faces an indefinite ban from the ground in addition to possible police action.

A number of arrests were made at the East Anglian derby against Norwich City last month after flares were thrown.

A statement on the Town website reads: “Ipswich Town would like to remind all supporters that anyone caught in possession of a flare or seen throwing one on matchday at Portman Road faces being banned from attending games indefinitely. Police action could also be taken.

“Flares can cause considerable distress and harm to those in close proximity when let off and in extreme circumstances can even be fatal.

“The club has zero tolerance to their use and will use CCTV and witnesses to take action against guilty parties if necessary.

"In addition, a trained sniffer dog will be in operation in the match against Aston Villa.”

what if one lands at your feet after being thrown, can you then throw it to get it away from you?

To be honest we dont really see them apart from the scum games so i dont know why the club are worried.
Should be more concerned about the stewards over reacting to things like the banner at the scum game which they couldnt wait to try and take off the chap behind me simly because it said "You'll never have our history buy you'll always have your sister"
What are they so frightened off? Pathetic

Your a joke ITFC,Norwich let off flares last time,YOU allowed them in to let them off again this season causing distress to our supporters then remind your own fans not to do it,what do the stewards do when checking away fans in,do they say is that a flare in your pocket? No,ok come on in.
Pathetic

Not sure how the club is wrong to remind people not to use flares? Suggest it would be irresponsible not to and let's be honest every club has its share of morons(not on this site I might add!).

Re the Norwich game surely letting flares off affects anyone in the vicinity not just home or away fans. Basic advice from my point of view and not worth worrying about unless you have a flare that is..

Just come back from holiday in Canada.. Where we humans are not at the top of the food chain.. Canada takes a don't be a t**t or you ll get hurt or killed attitude to life without Molly codling its people in cotton wool.. A few flares is hardly a threat to human life... I ve been to worse firework displays... Specially family ones.. If they won't allow flares .. How about Catherine wheels.. Split the difference..

Will any player daring to show flair be banned as well or has that already happened?

The beat- love that! Great banter! I'm afraid us supporters are now obliged to sit there shut up and watch the football.. I was only born in 85 (hence my name) but football in the 90's and early noughties was far better.. These days thee atmosphere is non existent.. fans are thrown out for having a cheeky fag at half time and we are told every minute to 'sit down' I will always support my beloved town but for me.. Football days aren't what they were! And I'm not condoning violence before anyone pipes up! 3 points against the villa will do me though.. COYB!!

They're smoke bombs, not flares. Splitting hairs maybe, but if you're going to put out a statement like this it's probably worth getting it right.

Have to agree that standing at games should be bought back. Some fans are just as bad, against Leicester after few years back I stood up for 10 seconds when plays topped and the fat idiot behind me wouldn't shut up about it.

Think he was a traffic warden. As for smoking go out of the stadium like everyone else.

.......... oh - so the Police are welcome to be around to address this so called problem.

Thought we didn't need them ? - unless they did the job for free.

at least if the football is bad you can pull a flare out and won't have to return
