New Job For Lambert Four Years After Town Exit Wednesday, 29th Jan 2025 13:58 Former Town boss Paul Lambert is back in football, nearly four years after leaving the Blues.
Lambert has been named technical director, Asia-Pacific with Borussia Dortmund, the club with whom he won the Champions League, a role which is understood to be primarily based in Australia.
“Thrilled to announce my new role as technical director, Asia-Pacific, for Borussia Dortmund Football Club (BVB),” the 55-year-old wrote on LinkedIn.
“This is an exciting opportunity to extend BVB’s renowned youth development philosophy across the region, building strong partnerships, activating existing sporting relationships, and delivering coaching expertise that helps young talent thrive both on and off the field.
“I’ve just returned from a thoroughly rewarding few days in Chennai, where we partnered a cultural exchange with Wynnum Wolves FC from Brisbane and the Murugappa Youth Football Academy (MYFA).
“It was inspiring to see young players from such diverse backgrounds training, competing, and, most importantly, building friendships through football. Watching them come together underscored the universal language of sport and its power to unite communities.
“At Borussia Dortmund, our philosophy extends beyond football excellence. It’s about developing fantastic human beings alongside potential first-team players. I’m excited to bring this ethos to Australasia, working with clubs, brands, leagues and young players to build long-term success.
“Looking ahead, I’m eager to collaborate with those who share the same passion for football’s ability to inspire, unite, and transform.
“If you’re in the region and looking to develop your club or community through partnerships or coaching excellence, let’s connect. Together, we can create pathways that foster talent and make a meaningful difference.”
Lambert was sacked after a dismal two-and-a-half-year spell in charge of the Blues in February 2021, having been unable to prevent relegation from the Championship in 2018/19 after taking over in the October and then failing to win promotion or even reach the play-offs in the following campaign.

He hasn’t referenced previously at any big, big clubs. So I’ll tell you something for nothing, he didn’t write that himself!

He certainly didn't write any of that.

Little harsh on Lambert. Felt we were very unlucky with the Covid suspension as our last four home games were the bottom four (including Southend and Bolton when they were both totally floored financially and losing every week). I still believe we'd have made it over the line for Top six, but the axe came down just in the middle of our dip during a run of tough fixtures. If it had been just 6 weeks earlier after we beat Lincoln in late Jan we'd have gone up as champions!

I was one of his critics. However, I now feel that some of the criticism may have been over the top, for the following reasons. 1) he was one of a line of failures which included Roy Keane, Paul Jewell, Mick McCarthy, Paul Hirst and Paul Cook. All had been successful with previous clubs, which suggests another factor (such as mismanagement by Marcus Evans). 2) Alan Lee described how chaotic the club was under Marcus Evans. 3) Look at what he had to work with. When his players departed, most of them went to other League One teams or dropped into League Two, which suggests that, if anything, they were overachieving under his management. 4) KMc rightly deserves the praise which has come his way, but he has had the advantages of having an experienced football Chief Executive in Mark Ashton and an ownership which is prepared to spend money on the club, both on and off the pitch.

Sick of hearing what he is up to. Utter charlatan. Of course he didn’t write that piece - he could barely even string together a few words when he spoke, other than to remind us how he played for big clubs.

Remind me again, when do Town stop paying him?

I hated him for his Scummer links I loved him for his attitude against the Scummers when at Town including when we played them at their place....was blessed to get inside the dressing room at Carrot Rd at his specific behest as my son was mascot and saw his passion first hand....before he kicked off on side-lines.. I respected him for giving back The Club to the fans even before Evans (##*#**###) had gone. We would not be where we are as a Club and fanbase without his time at the Club and wish him well accordingly.

Worst manager we ever had, bar none. At least Paul Hirst tried, he just wasn't up to the level. Roy Keane didn't get us relegated.

Can see his great sense of humour is going to go down well in Aus. I give him 3 months tops.

Give the guy a break please......whilst his record was poor, he did go about trying to instil a real connection with the club..past and present...in the middle of the doomed Evans period. Good luck to him...we move on
