Last time we lost at home to Barnsley 11:17 - Apr 9 with 2835 viewsSteve_M

The glory days of Roy Keane.

Town 1-3 Barnsley 13th Nov 2010 17:15
Dismal Town fell to their second home defeat in a week as Barnsley left Portman Road with a comfortable 3-1 victory. The Tykes were 2-0 in front at the break through Goran Lovre and a Márton Fülöp own goal, then Garry O’Connor made it three before Tommy Smith pulled a late goal back for the Blues. 0

Got as far as: '...Tom Eastman at right-back...' - then stopped, didn't need to read the rest.

'SBR used to play Butcher at right back' was the defence of that one from the star-struck element, as I recall.

Mark Kennedy returned at left-back and was given the captain’s armband. Tommy Smith moved inside to the centre of the defence alongside Damien Delaney, who took the injured Gareth McAuley’s right-central role with Tom Eastman at right-back.

Predict this will happen again this season. Interesting to note these bellends sort of echo through time though.

The thing is, that team is actually pretty decent. Goes to show that the players weren't playing for him.

- Smith was steady enough for us ever since, until his recent move

- Delaney played fairly well in the prem for a few years after

- Colback was class and our player of the season

- Livermore (probably unjustifiably) won an England cap this year

- Townsend was one of Palace's best players last time I checked

- Wickham was a wonder boy at the time

- Murphy got 50 in 127 in his latest spell with us

That midfield, especially, should have allowed us to achieve a lot more. 3 of them were loanees though granted.

It was a good side on paper, trouble is Roy couldn't get them to play on grass.

it was embarrassing.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

I hope not but I imagine anything going wrong will set-off the negative chants.

It wasn't at the time:

- Smith didn't really establish himself for another year or two;
- Delaney. Didn't like leading the defence was much better with McAuley alongside himl
- Colback. Not as good in 2010-11 as the previous breakthrough season;
- Livermore. Young and inconsistent. Just after this Keane sent him back to Spurs.
- Townsend. See Livermore.
- Wickham. Again not really established at that point, he flourished later that season when we had a more attacking side.

Telling that fans thought Priskin had most threat that day too although I think he was pretty decent at times that season. Think that team reflects Keane trying to get players to do things they weren't comfortable with, it was memorably awful even years on.

Time really allows you to admire even more clearly how totally useless Keane and Jewell were that they were able to perform so badly in a division where the gap between the top teams wasn't as big as it is now and where we had players like the Premier Leagues McAuley, Delaney, Livermore, Colback and Townsend regularly in the side.
