Was superb. Right in front of us - being Town fans we fully expected the net to ripple...

It sounded bloody good on the radio yesterday. Brenner was convinced Preston were going to score.

He's pretty much forced the pass too and effectively dealt with both players.

Good to see.

Plenty more of that please.

So was I! So was the rest of the Churchmans. It really was a cracking tackle.

The last time I can recall something similar, was from Creswell a few years back, can't remember who against but whomever it was broke from a corner, Cressy was the only Town defender back and he had 3 opponents coming at him. Somehow he forced the player in posession to pass the ball and pretty much catch it up as it reached it's target, putting in a fabulous tackle to break the move down.

Neither Cresswell then, nor Pennington yesterday should have had any chance of winning the ball, but waht a joy it is to watch when it comes off.

And where we were in the North. Probably the second biggest cheer of the day for that.

as I mentioned on the twitter, undeniably brilliant tackle but a huge concern than 10-man Preston ripped us open so easily. Seem to recall 10-man Bolton had the better chances too. There's a fragility running through our squad.

Once the ball was passed, I don't think the striker ever believed Pennington could get across there. Incredible effort and technique.

Yes, we've been generally poor whenever we should have the upper hand this season.

I'm hoping that it's a lack of self-belief and a clear plan of how to take control of games. Both of which I think are Lambert's strengths and focus going by what he's talked most about.

Like Bolton (though we did manage to actually get some shots away this time) we seemed to panic at the golden chance we had and resorted to hitting long balls too often which meant if one got intercepted we were exposed.

Need to be calmer and have more belief and confidence which hopefully Lambert will bring but unfortunately thanks to Hurst we haven’t really got the time for much getting up to speed. We need to be there now.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Yes, but I don't think it too surprising that a team low on confidence reacted badly to conceding. A lot of players were tiring then as well, giving the lie (again) to Hurst's sport science claims.

Yes, poor show by Penningto not to get up and deliver a match winning cross after the tackle.

Brilliant tackle , that's the sort of commitment we are going to need to get us out of the hole we're in .

Would happily sign him up if available .

Bit of a hoof into the box by Rooney to be fair.

I'd have been ashamed if we'd scored that goal.

Was a great recovery tackle.

Chambers looked so much better as the right sided centre half.

Could be a crucial pairing if we are going to get out of this mess.

He's pretty much done the polar opposite to that article since coming here
"fell very short of being the dependable defender the club so desperately require."
I didn't realise he was 24, thought he was younger like Connolly last year. He probably needs to be finding himself a club to get himself some first team football if he's not going to break through at Goodison any time soon.

He signed a new 3 year deal with them earlier this year, so imagine we’d have to pay a decent fee to get him permanently.

Agree though, would love to think we could make him a permanent signing.

Fantastic defending. Shouldn't really have been in that situation in the first place, it's about the only mistake Chambers made all game and was nearly costly. I like the Pennington - Chambers partnership, they'll be vital over the course of the season. I do think we're lacking solid full backs either side of them. Fix that (perhaps Kenlock could step up), and get Huws, Bishop, Downes, Dozzell, Skuse, Chalobah, Edwards all fighting fit and we might have enough about us.
