'Marquee' Loan Signing 09:25 - Aug 6 with 6013 viewsCaptMickMills

Once Premiership/Championship transfer window closed on Thursday is there any chance of Ipswich getting a 'marquee' loan signing similar to Gio, Fraser, Lawrence, Williams, Celina etc. Someone potentially too good for League One but needs experience.

Whilst I am in favour of reducing overall number of loans someone similar to the above would be beneficial especially if a flair player who could score or make a goal out of nothing.

Once Premiership/Championship transfer window closes Ipswich are then one of the most appealing loan destinations for young stars-in-the-making and for their clubs.

Should Trev not be loaned out to a Championship club in the next 48 hours, would you welcome him back on season long loan. Doubt if Chelsea would even want a contribution to wages as aying for Town would be more beneficial to his development than playing in Chelsea U23's

He’ll go to a Championship club, and Chelsea will absolutely want a fee as that’s their entire model

Whilst Trev will be a class player this season for somebody this season, I don't see that we need any more bodies in central midfield!

CaptMickMills. It’s ‘marque’ loan signing.
A marquee is a fricking large tent.

Not so. The expression "marquee player", originating in America, denotes an athlete who is considered exceptionally popular, skilled, or otherwise outstanding. Its name comes from theatre marquees, on which the names of the stars of productions in said theatre are often emblazoned in order to draw spectators.

Think that is fair enough, like the Norris loan to cover Bart

I'd happily take Tanganga (20 year old CB) and Parrott (17 year old striker) from Tottenham.

I fear our only marquee signing is likely to be an extension to the fanzone.

I'd hope not, loans can be used to plug gaps but they shouldn't be used as key parts of the squad.

Look at all these mega deals going through at the moment, anything that blocks the progress of youngsters with potential is madness.

Look at Jack Marriott, he sat on the bench whilst we watched Connor Sammon not hitting a barn door up top, had JM been given those opportunities would we have been any worse off? What benefit have we received from Tom Lawrence's loan spell as good as he was?

Lawrence did give us those absolute scenes when we equalised that day at Barnsley..

Where would Tanganga fit in though? Because Spurs wouldn't be sending him here to not play.

I'd pefer us to continue to bring in decent transfers in on frees - there are some around - rather than signing a Premier League youngster who will aid his career and maybe add a '0' to his transfer fee but do nothing for us beyond May.

He'd play left side CB. Can't believe we'd get him, but if you don't ask....

So he'd get in the way of Wolfie's development. Not a good idea.
