This is all about the ever increasing devolution of personal responsibility in our modern hellscape society. Everything bad will eventually be classified as a result of mental illness and therefore, no blame can possibly be accorded to the individual but instead on their "background" or upbringing or brain chemistry.

The controversial thing with child sex offenders is yes, it's sick and twisted, but also it's a mental illness. No one decides if they're straight, gay, bi, pan or whatever they are in between. I also imagine no paedophile wakes up one morning and decides on their own merit kids are their sexual preference because they feel like it. Granted there's a difference in case when it comes to acting on it or being a straight up sick f*ck (much like any case of rape) but the root cause that leads someone there isn't a choice.

That is how paedophiles see it according to a prison officer I chatted to once when he came in to do some talks to kids. Essentially they see it as their natural urges and something they can't help. I'm not sure it's entirely justified either as a logical chain of thought though. It surely goes beyond mere preference? |  |

A bloke I worked with said he had a mate who suffered from said urges and turned himself in to the police looking for help. They just locked him up and that was it. I imagine that's a very depressing way of living to know your brain is wired to want to do something so immoral.
I think with those who act out on it the whole personality trait of being a text book psychopathy with no ability to feel remorse comes into play. Much like those with a desire to kill, it's a dangerous cocktail. | |
