If you were to go down the ex-player route, trying to link to the academy 11:22 - Mar 10 with 12137 viewsitfcjoe

Like Chelsea seem to have done with Frank Lampard - are there any obvious names that stick out?

Dyer seems to be the one of that profile who wants the job, has he done his coaching badges? He'd presumably be paired up with a Nash (or previously Hogg) who both have had success in the academy and hold their Pro Licences.

There was talk in the Athletic article about almost a cartel of academy guys who run the club, is it to be assumed that these guys are in that - and if so should they be given their opportunity if running the club anyway?

It will be interesting times when Lambert does inevitably get the boot, but can't help but feel that Evans will go down the experienced manager to try and get us straight back up route.

Fair point. I just wonder whether ME's model of getting experienced managers in who can basically run much of the club will work with someone like Dyer who doesn't really have the experience to do all that. It's why I wonder whether having an experienced head like Burley or similar to do some of the off field football stuff might work? O'Neil seems to be trusted but he's not really a DoF.

I'm not sure this perception that managers run the whole club is really accurate. Mick, for example, didn't seem interested in being involved in much other than the first team.

Broadly speaking, what would be a sporting director's role was done by Marcus and Dave Bowman during that period as I understand it, Ian Milne was involved with the non-footballing side of things, and now by Lee and Marcus. Marcus is very hands-on in negotiating contracts/deals etc.

If there were to be a senior appointment, then I don't think someone like George would be the man, needs someone whos skills are more in the financial side of things rather than an ex-manager, although Frank Yallop has been in that sort of role in the States recently.

pfft, you didn't need to be goes-to-all-the-games-and-buys-a-season-ticket-superfan to work out that Lambert is rubbish

No level of blame towards the players then? Chambers, Judge, Skuse, both keepers, Andre....they all get passes for some very questionable performances & work-rates?

What about Evans?

Evans' 'long term' decisions have resulted in us being in the third division, but make no mistake Lamert is responsible for us now being their for the long haul.

Unless of course, it was totally Chambers and Skuse that kept making him rotate the side, change formations and tactics, bring in both goalkeepers, phase out one of them in favour of Downes and not actually bother coaching the likes of Dozzell to become better players.

I'm with you. As much as the club are absolutely adamant there is not going to be a change, if there's not a significant upturn very soon it's very difficult to see how the situation can be allowed to continue in the summer.

No amount of ‘upturn’ will even scrape us into the playoffs which was the bare minimum even for the biggest of pessimists!

Wind against your Southend’s and Bury’s will just give O’Neill the perfect excuse for more spin and nonsense.

Agree, even an upturn in form over the next few weeks is probably too late. Decision won't be down to Lee but Marcus.

If we want to play a technical passing game, we could do worse than look to our last proper technically gifted midfielder. No, not Jonathan Douglas, the other one. Jim someone I think....

I'd say 'you're better than this' but sadly Jubbers, you're not anymore. You're more interested in having a cheap go rather than actually addressing the fact that yet another manager has failed here, mostly by his own hand.

But hey, you want to be a Banksy tribute act, you go ahead.

‘Not bothering to coach Dozzell’ has resulted in his awful poor form? Yeah. Not buying that, personally. I don’t think Lambert’s arm has been forced enough from young Andre to cement a place in the squad.

I do agree with the overused rotation policy. That has ultimately done for Lambert. But again, it’s hardly responsible for regular individual errors from supposed senior players, or supposed players going missing in every other game.

I do believe Lambert’s position is untenable now.

I think he has something about him in that regard, he speaks well about the game when given the opportunity and think he has the self confidence to do it.

What we need is someone who has good contacts, and is willing to look inside the academy too - plus looking to play a technical and watchable style of football. I think fans will accept the step back in club stature more if we are trying to do things the right way.

But, I can't imagine Evans would think that

Yeah we should have got someone like Magilton to do this 15 years ago.

Exactly, the irony is that one of the best ex player candidates is the one Evans had at the start and sacked! He also did better without funds than with.

I'd take Dyer in a heartbeat right now. The lack of experience doesn't bother me. I don't see that he could do any worse than Lambert with this squad of players.

Could we add Marcus Stewart to the list of potentials? If we’re looking for potential DoF Jason De Vos might be worth looking at, running Canadian football and comes across as very knowledgeable too.

The thought of Chambers being in charge fills me with dread no coaching experience and Captain of some of the worst Town teams in history, if I was in charge he’d be moved to club captain and I’d find a new team captain.

I suspect as Butcher is already at the club, he'd be in alongside Dyer, plus Bellamy might make his way back over here also.

In his book he doesn't have much praise for him, but then across the ITFC XIs he did in the summer he seemed to really rate him and what he did.

I see nothing, absolutely nothing to lose.

I really can't see us getting relegated from this league. But we aren't going to be promoted this year.

Leaves us limbo of salary cap, and we are going to have to do something very different next year.

Wages are going to have to be significantly cut, recruitment is going to have to significantly improve if we want to bring as much quality as we can.

Would have no issues at all with Dyer at the helm.
