I was there for that.

tbh they were much better than Guns n Roses who in hindsight were a frayed mess.

Slowburner all over the West Midlands in the late '90s and early '00s.

Tho there were some great unexpected one-offs: Company of Snakes supporting Skynyrd at Brixton Academy, Blaze Bayley (shortly after the end of his stint in Maiden) supporting Saxon in Dudley.

Not the Black Spiders, who seemed to be supporting everyone at one point.

I've been racking my brains about this and felt a bit left out - and then I remembered the absolutely brilliant Chrissy Hynde supporting The Stones.

Aside from that I can't really think of anything outstanding, certainly no soon to be superstars.

I vaguely remember The Belle Stars being better that The Selector

Oh and Heaven 17 outshone a below par Squeeze recently.

I've also got a vague recollection of going to a gig purely to see the support band but I really can't remember.

Slowburner, if they are the same band, were very good. Knew the lead singer, Paul Bridgewater when i lived out that way.
Earlier though, late 80,s early 90,s.
Are they still going Guthers?

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

Bit obscure, but here goes:

Moon Safari supporting Lazuli, I think at the Borderline

John Young supporting Woolly Wolstenholme, at the Mean Fiddler.

They'd been around for years when I first saw them. Used to play a lot at the Robin by Merry Hill shopping centre. Probably is the same band.

Not been to any gigs up that way for a while, since the mate I used to go with moved away.

Exactly! They went off and everyone had this stunned look on their faces and asking that question. Earring were actually very good but no-one remembered them because it was all about Skynyrd who went on to blow the Stones offstage at Knebworth

Sepultura supporting Motorhead.

That chili peppers gig had the dubious honour of having the best support and the worst support I've ever seen at a gig.

British Sea Power supporting The Flaming Lips at the old Town & Country Club.

They'd only just started and I'd not heard of them at the time, probably my favourite band now.

The Dust Brothers (now the Chemical Brothers) supporting Underworld at the Astoria wasn't bad either.
