I'll be honest, when I saw the first few videos of these protestors I said, "I wouldn't normally say this, but I'd love it if the police pulled out machine guns and shredded this lot."
My girlfriend is an absolute angel. She was disgusted with that comment and said, "These are clearly people who haven't had enough love."
It made me feel like a dick for thinking like that (and I felt similar at the guy spitting in this clip) ...but then I felt a bit ashamed when I thought about what she'd said. I would never do what those morons did there - but I've had a great, loving upbringing. Maybe the spitting guy hasn't had a lovely picnic with loved ones?
It may be a bit hippy dippy, and I can't believe I'm typing this when I thought a bullet in the head was a good idea, but what she said makes sense (she also talked about feeling empowered, and education).
If you rewatch this stuff - these white, mostly bald, beer filled feckwits who just want a fight really, it does make you think. Why do they want to drink beer, get with their equally fat-thug-Stone-Island mates, and fight something?
In a couple of hours my anger turned to pity. I even wondered if David Cameron's 'Hug a hoodie' had a point!
