It's almost like he's the Prime Minister or something and everything he says in a public arena is being interpreted as, potentially latent, government policy. Bloody media ....
If, as you assert, he is addressing those who have been furloughed the question surely is, "Why?". Those people had no choice in the matter (and no choice for some of them in subsequently being laid off) and they will have no choice about how and when they return to work, other than the Hobson's choice perhaps of refusing and making themselves redundant.
As club chairman he seems to have addressed his team talk to the subs, maybe forgetting that they can't get on the pitch without the manager's say so. |  |

People don’t decide when it’s time to go back to work, it’s the H&S departments who decide this based on the risk assessments they’ve given their staff. All risk assessments have to be based on clear criteria and not this sort of muddled thinking that has been prevalent since the pandemic started. I guess this is the sort of de centralised decision making Boris favours, unfortunately, as time will tell, this generally ends badly. | | | |

They didn't want to do it because they were worried about PPE
They didn't want people buying up all the masks when they could barely provide enough of them for the NHS

Out of interest why are you associating a second wave with winter?
I haven't seen anything confirming seasonality of C19 and given the way it's hit hot and humid places like South America the evidence wouldn't seem to be high for it.
Would be interested to see any studies you've seen on it.

He couldn’t see where I was coming from when I suggested he better not mention that to the managers as they could suggest he can return to the office. | |

That certainly applies to other coronaviruses but I am not sure it's definitive for C19 although to be honest I've not kept up with the research. It's been 30C+ in Peru for months and they have a horrendous outbreak, the same goes for parts of Brazil.
It could make a difference (possibly a large one) but it doesn't seem to be purely seasonal like the flu.

And there the problem, who decides if it’s safe or not? if it’s now safe to do so Boris should be announcing it in an official press conference and give a clear date, that enables businesses and their H&S teams to fully evaluate and prepare.
The government seems to be now distancing itself from taking the lead and just parroting out aspirations rather clear defined, thought out instructions.
We all want to get back, we want to be as safe as we can but not at the expense of a second wave of infections which will damage our economy further. As far as I can see many businesses are staying operational whilst staff are working remotely (I know I am) it’s not the same for everybody I know but i fear many business owners will see this a clear indication from the government the danger is over.
It’s important to remember that you spend more time in your workplace than you do at home or at leisure, the risks must surely be higher? | | | |

Certainly not seasonal, but government scientists do seem to be concerned about a second wave in the winter.
With the likes of Peru, you have to take into account how densely populated some parts of the country are, and lack of medical facilities. With Brazil likewise, then add that tvvat President into the mix, giving a recipe for disaster. | | | |
