‘Chambers and Skuse, with one out of position’? I’ve heard that one (several dozen times) before!

Team today on 08:08 - Sep 5 by Mullet | Woolf needs to learn CB, moving him out for no reason and denying him game time there for what is essentially a pre-season friendly is pointless. I'm only concerned with what happens in 8 days time and how it affects the line up. This just shows how badly pre-season is being managed. |
It wouldn’t be pointless, it’s one game to accommodate. Out of everyone available, he’d be the better option than an aging Chambers at fullback. Chambers can then manage Nsiala through the game at CB.

Team today on 08:12 - Sep 5 by King_ding_a_lin_g | I'd play Toto ahead of Chambers... you would have thought Edwards at right back is a no brainer if KVY is out. Maybe he's scared of doing anything that resembles last season. I'm happy with Judge behind the striker and happy to see him rewarding Drinan. Sets a good example for the other younger players. It's just the right side that I would change. Like you say, why does he need to shoehorn Chambers in!? At least we should have plenty of options on the bench. |
On what basis is toto deserving to be ahead of Chambers... ...apart from being Mick's man?

Why would you not play the bloke who's had hundreds of hours at RB at RB over a youth? It's Bristol Rovers in the cup, if Toto and Woolf can't handle that then we have bigger problems regardless. Whatever happened to round pegs?

Team today on 08:17 - Sep 5 with 7380 views | MonkeyAlan | That team looks so slow. If we counter attack a team of snails would get back in position before we got up the pitch. Rovers will love attacking down their left with Chambers and Toto there.

Team today on 08:19 - Sep 5 with 7368 views | Stadiumofdark | Could be 5-3-2? wingbacks (edwards and ward) with sears and Drinan up top? Ward would be knackered though...

Because Chambers is 5 /6 years older from when he played there under MM and has mostly likely lost some pace. We’re better off using him to play alongside Nsiala and managing him through the game. Woolfenden has played at RB before for us and has the ability to get forwards with the ball.

2017/18 was 5 or 6 years ago? Blimey we are all rewriting the past today aren't we? Woolf charging forward and getting caught out of position when Chambers is slower and likely to be doubled up on makes tactical sense does it? Let alone the fact Woolf is better passing than running forward with the ball.

Woolfenden can do both. Nothing like living in the past and thinking that a player still has the same abilities from a few years back 🙄. Playing centrally, Chambers is going to have less ground to cover, than being asked to play fullback with the license to get forward. [Post edited 5 Sep 2020 8:35]

I don't and haven't said anywhere he does. I just haven't imagined ones around other players to suit my bias.

We’ve played Bishop behind the Striker and Dozzell as the deeper midfielder and now we move Judge to the role behind the Striker and Bishop to the deep role. It’s like he has looked at last season and thought yeah we created so many chances with that midfield we’ll go again with it.

Because he is 35? Woolfenden is not a youth. He has had 2 full seasons in senior football now, one of which was spent largely playing right back. He is far more athletic and mobile than a 35 year old Chambers, It makes absolute sense to play him at right back today based on the players available. [Post edited 5 Sep 2020 9:24]
