Tomorrow's line up 10:11 - Oct 5 with 2883 viewsWallingford_Boy

This could be a tough one to call!

Assume the two new signings will get some much needed game time and obviously Cornell in goal, but other than those three, pretty tough to predict.

I'll go -

Cornell
Donacien Woolfie McGuiness Kenlock
Huws McGavin Dobra
Lankester Folami Bennetts

RIP Sir Bobby

Looks about right. Mickey Mouse cup and tomorrow is a good opportunity to go out of it having lost to Arsenal already.

We should be able to meet the criteria pretty easily with the following 4 players:

McGuinness (on loan from Premier League club)
Donacien (40+ 1st team appearances in career)
Huws (as above)
Cornell (as above)

Aside from those 4 I don't think I would risk anyone we don't have to. Woolfie, Dobra, Bennetts, Lankester etc could probably do with the match fitness but I wouldn't play Kenlock given he might need to start on Saturday.

Don't think McGuiness can play as he played against us earlier ( happy to be wrong though ). I'm expecting something like

Cornell
Donacien - Woolfie - Wilson - Kenlock
Huws - Judge - McGavin
Lankester - Hawkins - Bennetts

Wouldn't be surprised if either Lankester or Bennetts is hauled off at half time and they then start on Saturday.

Dobra for McGuinness then.

Bennetts is definitely much needed for Saturday, so maybe just a half for him.

Not sure why we signed McGuinness really, seems way down the order and not even on the bench at the weekend.

What is the situation with Ndaba? If he is approaching match fitness it might be better to field him rather than risking Wilson.

Lambert sid on Saturday Bennetts wouldn't be playing and said he'd not be risking any of his senior players, including the likes of Jackson coming back from injury.

Purely just a friendly/exhibition match. Fitness opportunity is the only beneficiary.

Cornell
Donacien - Woolfenden - Wilson - Ndaba
Dobra - McGavin - Huws
Lankester - Folami - Bennetts

McGuinness can’t feature as he will be cup tied. I also what to see Ndaba left back to see whether he is a viable option for Stephen Ward absence, we cannot rely on Kenlock for 6 weeks I’m afraid.

Would've thought a glorified friendly was a great chance to get some people up to match fitness...

Why would Bennetts not be playing?

Surely he needs some match sharpness?

Or is he just not wanting to risk him before Saturday?

Surely a half would be beneficial?

So many questions!

Not ready, he said. “I think he needs a week or so with everybody here to find his feet.”

That's why I asked him about Jackson in particular. But I assume he doesn't want to risk one of his only two fit strikers in a game he essentially sees as meaningless.

Ah I do remember reading that now actually, must have dropped out of my brain.

I find it a very odd comment though, "finding his feet", surely what matters is to get him up to match sharpness, not how well he knows his team mates/training facilities/etc

Get the lad playing and into the 1st team ASAP.

The malign gods of football injuries would have an opportunity to replay their Tom Adeyemi or Jonathan Walters scenarios. It's not worth the risk in a meaningless game.

ITFC shall rise like a phoenix from the ashes of its long decline!

It's ridiculous considering some teams sign a player on a Thurs or Friday and he goes straight into the starting line up on the Saturday...and that's for an important league game.

'Find his feet'...get him playing Paul! Even if he is off pace and isn't understanding his teammates what better way than a meaningless game to help get involved.

You have to wonder sometimes...do they just say this stuff without thinking!

Something like

Wright
Cotter - Ndaba - Baggott - Clements
McGavin - Crowe - Healy
K Brown - Simpson - Folami

?

We may as well play Cornell and Donacien surely, especially as it feels like the latter will need every member of the back line to be taken out before he gets to start.

...by anyone else.

They are either unemployed, injured or rotting away in the ressies.

It's inevitable, unfortunately, that they aren't up to 3rd Division football when they join.

Think he's been on the grass for a bit. Will need a couple of U23s games before being anywhere near the first team.
