At least kids can still go to nursery so there isn't the ridiculous split shifts for us to manage, or more realistically for my wife to as I'll be mostly out and about in the day with work.
Gym shut, pitch black and wet outside so exercise a struggle.
Nothing to look forward to, except watching Ipswich games on my own sitting in my office. On top of that I've got a dissertation to write.
Roll on 2021, when hopefully things will be a bit better

The issue is that by saying this and that should be excluded you are probably guaranteeing it won't be just 4 weeks. It should have been a strict 4 weeks with everything closed.
Why only 7-9 year olds? What about 10 year olds? 11 year olds? What about other clubs which help youngsters - why only football? We need to look at these things from a bigger perspective than what directly affects us unfortunately.
The 1 other is only someone else who lives on their own and doesn't see anyone else and it has to be the same person for the whole lockdown. That's totally different to playing a round of golf with a different friend each day.
It's rubbish I know and I also know it stresses people out and affects people differently but piecemeal measures are getting us nowhere, sooner or later people need to accept that they can't do a few things they want to do for a short time.
I will say that the ridiculous thing about kids football being closed is that they can still mingle with the same children at school. Closing one and not the other is nonsensical.

Any individual can meet another individual outdoors as long as they socially distance. Does not have to be the same individual each time.

I think they should probably be closed now to be honest. Schools should shut Friday for 4 weeks as it makes no sense for them to be possible vectors at football clubs but not at school. The guidance on work also isn't clear enough, I know that plenty of businesses where people could WFH (offices mainly) are deeming the rules to mean that people can still come in and aren't stopping them doing so.
I don't think they will be closed though unless Boris is pushed into a corner by rising deaths which in turn means the R isn't likely to get as low as we need and people are going to be disappointed at Christmas.
The French are being honest about this - their health minister just said it won't be a normal Christmas and in response to the Parisan Mayor wanting to open up shops again he said this:
"She cannot ignore the fact that every 15 minutes, in the hospitals of Paris, there is someone ill who has been hospitalised with Covid. She cannot ignore the fact that every 30 seconds, there is a Parisian who has been contaminated.
We want to save the Parisians and the French people and we do that with determination and consistency."

Refreshing to see a politician being "honest" for once. Christmas won't be happening either so may as well just be "honest" about it at 11.59 pm tomorrow which won't bother me much as i don't enjoy it anyway, but to keep stringing the majority along who do is a bit sh1tty.
We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub.

Bloody grinch!
Dunno about anyone else, but we've already decided to pull the plug on Crimbo this year, sadly. Which is a shame as there's nothing I love better. There will be no Douglas Fir singing his little songs or the rockin' Father Christmas this yuletide.
But y'know what, for the sake of everyone's health and long-term wellbeing it's a sacrifice we have to make. And I won't have to argue with uncle Britain First either.

On the face of it, Australias lockdown appears to be working. A very good friend of mine has been sending me updates regularly for some time from Victoria. The main reason he thinks compliance was so succesful was that fines were dished out with regularity, hefty ones at that, for people not adhering to the rules. His last update was on 30th October, he still has to wear a face covering at all times while outside. Over the course of their summer, it will be interesting to see if Covid rears its ugly head again now that the populace can go about their business. We shall see.
It has to be remembered that the lockdown only applied to Victoria and even then country Victoria relaxed it's restrictions earlier then Melbourne which was the only place to lock down for the whole three months.
Meanwhile, the rest of Australia has got on with life pretty normally so the economic consequences will have been nothing compared to locking down the whole country. The situation in Australia as a whole is and has been very different to the UK.

Same here, doesn't seem worth the risk of all getting together. It's a shame but hopefully it's a one-off and can always have a pseudo-Christmas next July in the garden with a BBQ.

Sorry old fruit, bit of an old bah humbug, me. Mrs Pinewood is still clinging to the hope that there will be some "relaxing" of the rules come yule, as it will be her Grandsons first Crimbo, so got to tread a careful path for the time being with a few "Well, you never knows" thrown into the conversation, but, you are probably right pulling the plug now. A belated Crimbo on the beach in July is much more appealing anyway
Did you get the singing Douglas Fir from Buster Brady?

I had to look up who that was! But no, sadly not, dear chap. That little fella is the bane of my sister's life. Every year she tries to hide him, but I always find him eventually :)
Ah, such a shame with a sprog's first visit from Father Christmas. But sounds like you are doing a good job in expectation management!
I'm no fan of an Aussie-style Christmas, but knowing our luck it would be the first Christmas with snow in a long while!

Indeed. Many of them wanted to press on, but what with me coming in from the most infected place in the country and several family members working in the NHS/care homes, it just seems like a daft idea if not completely necessary. And my Aunt's Paxo stuffing is best avoided anyway.
But on the plus side, I'll be able to watch the Father Ted Christmas special on repeat with no complaints.

I get what you're saying for sure and you're probably right in the main. Where I differ a little is on what sort of lockdown this will be - if it's to be long and not really a circuit breaker, then I'm more than fine with schools staying open / other trimmings like the younger kids' sport, just purely as a way of making life more bearable for them. It could be I'm going too much on my own child’s experience, but it definitely took its toll — school is one of the few normal activities available at the moment and so important for it.
Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

The counter to that is by keeping those things open you actually make the lockdown longer which you then say means they have to stay open for the kids. It's a feedback loop.
What do you mean by long lockdown? The 4 weeks they have said or something longer?
I think it's entirely natural to view things through the lens of our own experiences and those of our family. Things obviously affect different adults and children in different ways.

Yes, it could well be a feedback loop, but again in my own experience (!) we've "only" had two cases of Covid in the school to date, so i'm not sure how big a danger that is. Other schools may well have been hit harder of course.
By long lockdown, I just doubt it'll really be stopping on Dec 2. Maybe a pause for Christmas, but I'm assuming it'll be most of the winter, based on gut feeling rather than science (obvs I know nowt!).
Such a shame we didn't opt for the strict "true" circuit breaker a while back.

I think you're almost certainly right it will be longer, possibly most the winter but I think that is even more likely if schools remain open. I don't think it should stop for Xmas either as that will add even more time to the length of the lockdown but many may see that as worth it.
It's unlikely the circuit breaker over half-term would have been enough, cases had already rocketed by then. The government should have done it though but as always they dithered.
Some Tories will even vote against this lockdown today.

Ah - I've only ever worn the silver stuff which is awesome - I can't really see how black is going to be particularly bright/reflective, but I'm sure they'll have worked it out, they seem to know what they're doing.

Perhaps I am looking at the wrong ones then.
It's blue but then with the silver stuff over the shoulders and arms. I'll take another look.
