Worth remembering as we laugh/cry at the USA and Trump... 13:31 - Nov 6 with 1761 views | monytowbray | ...that the tentacles of the beast go far and deep. Mercer and Bannon have fuelled a global populist movement to undermine democracy and further corrupt politics to benefit a wealthy few via subversive propaganda and cult-like brainwashing tactics with support of big tech’s love of profit at any cost. There’s a reason number 10 are keeping their mouths shut on this one, they are in the middle of taking us to the same place. [Post edited 6 Nov 2020 13:32]

The more free passes they get, the worse off we’ll have it. Not sure what more this lot need to do before we widely accept we are governed by racist criminals who value power at any cost over democracy, morals and the truth. [Post edited 6 Nov 2020 13:37]

Irish PM has come out and said the quite uncontroversial statement that every vote should be counted, if Boris or Raab said that it would be a much better look than what they are currently doing

Exactly. It's not going to cause a diplomatic incident to say that in an election, all votes should be counted. Yet another cause for concern. Watch out for this UK. It's a slippery slope.

We’ve been on it since 2016. Our saving grace so far has been the UK doesn’t have the Christian zealot market to hack into and in general we’re starting from a less polarised society. The hacking into patriotism for culture war means though? Tick box. Bannon once said to remould society you need to break it completely and rebuild. He also said the best way to combat truth is flood the news with sh1t. Look at the UK in that context and remember Steve is very pally behind the scenes with figureheads in our current ruling party, including Johnson himself. [Post edited 6 Nov 2020 13:46]

Now that I agree with, they're a poxy bunch and the sooner we can get them out the better. I'm just not at all surprised that our PM & foreign sec aren't going to denounce a bloke they've not got around to over the past 4 years, especially given where we've found ourselves. Morally I completely agree with you, but practically there's an element of game playing here on the off chance Trump remains President. My opinion of this government couldn't be any lower but I really can't see what's unfolding in the US being a reality here. Call me naive but Trump is a genuine psychopath. I don't put Johnson and his people in the same league.

This is the thing isn't it. These right wing types like to present themselves as tough guys but , like the classical bullies start hiding and chickening out like the cowards they are when asked to stand up to the big boys.

It’s not even them either. Story below (or rather non-story): a government staffer provides bland same answer to the same question several times https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/breaking-no10-repeatedly-refuses-say-2296

Like "Black Lives Matter" v "All Lives Matter", it's not as simple as that though. Saying "In all elections all votes should be counted" is a political statement if directed at the President of an Allied nation who is initiating legal proceedings to stop some votes being counted. Once the vote is complete then comments can be made by our Government.

Sorry my man but I will have to take your offer to call you naive. This lot are just as bad, but British politeness covers more of it up than Trump's big mouth could. I'd post links to every bit of evidence to prove this point but I am busy with a deadline and don't have a spare 6 hours, perhaps a Government BANTER era thread is needed!?

When it becomes the habitual norm of ruling power rather than a one off to shy away from saying the right thing, it becomes a problem. Nothing story in isolation? Yeah, I could give you that. Next to the track record and past behaviour in context, f*ck the lot of them and I hope some fraud charges will be pushed through with potential prison time.

Worth remembering as we laugh/cry at the USA and Trump... on 19:48 - Nov 6 with 1246 views | Nthsuffolkblue | I don't honestly think the Tory endplay is to take us to the same place. As low as my opinion of them is, I actually think they are (slightly) better than that. I think the reason is that they don't want to criticise Trump for 2 reasons. 1 in case somehow he clings onto power and they are begging him still for a trade deal; 2 because a significant chunk of core Conservative support are Trump supporters and to criticise him will upset them. They don't want to waste all the courting of UKIP/Brexit Party/National Front they worked so hard to court. That said, for any Government in a modern democracy not to be able to say count every vote is worrying. Especially when that is the most corrupt British Government in living memory.

Corruption, like prejudice has become a party political issue because certain political entities have based their recent appal around opening courting bigots.. It really shouldn't be, but it's viewed as such because of this.

Worth remembering as we laugh/cry at the USA and Trump... on 10:05 - Nov 7 with 939 views | Blue12345 | Why would our government even get involved in the argument. They are politicians for a reason, they’re going to keep their opinion far away from what’s going on in the US as currently It will serve no purpose for the benefit of the UK. Donald Trump is claiming some of the votes cast are illegal. Now I’m not saying they are but let’s say it was ruled next week that a large amount of Joe Bidens votes were made illegally and Trump was to get another 4 years. It wouldn’t do anything for the UKs relationship with the US had we claimed those votes should have been counted. On the other hand it also wouldn’t be good if the UK came out and said they believed votes were made illegally in the event if Joe Biden is elected.
