I despise racism in all its forms and guises. So I have absolutely no problem with ‘Let’s do something about racism’ I’m all for it!

But I’m not a fan of Marxism, which from what I’ve read of the movement seems pretty much entwined with the anti racism message. So I find myself conflicted - I agree with the racism thing, but not the politics. Not sure where that leaves me! But maybe I’ve just got it wrong.

Some in the movement are anti-capitalist or Marxist, most are not especially political. It's odd that people make such an issue of this whilst still buying a poppy, despite its symbolism being increasingly hijacked by knuckle dragging English nationalists. If you can leave the politics out of supporting the poppy, surely you can leave it out of supporting the message that Black lives matter?

He was a decent human being. If you know what that means.

I just saw a video of Tom Hunt without know who it is. I thought it was a sh*t Boris Johnson parody.

Thats exactly what he is. A p1ss poor Johnson parody.

What you'd get if you bought a boris Johnson double from the middle aisle at Aldi.

This is the crux.

Before the tories went full on brexit they did have some half decent front benchers, now we're left with sycophantic party line types who just get shown up every time they open their mouths.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.

I have some sympathy with this - 'defund the police' is a pretty cack-handed mission statement.
'REFORM the police' or 'better police training' is much more 'cuddly' sounding message.

The way I see it there are a few core points.

1) We need to accept that institutionalised racism is real, although individuals in these institutions may not actually be racist themselves. We need to be honest that Black people are discriminated against by the police.

2) Police are not there to punish the community, they are there to protect them. This 'us against the world' mentality has to go. The first response of the police to one of their own committing a crime can not be to circle the wagons. We need a police culture where the good officers feel that bad police officers need ousting and feel comfortable in acting to do so.

3) To ease pressure on the police we should not be relying on them to carry out ever more tasks that shouldn't fall under their remit and which they are not equipped to carry out. Homelessness and responding to mental health issues should not be a part of their day to day work, for example. For the tasks they are expected to carry out they should be better funded, and be provided with comprehensive training. Supporting the police in becoming a better organisation would go a long way.

Of course, the kind of people booing or posting Very Concerned posts on forums more often and not aren't concerned with any of that. It's just a useful nail to hang their bigotry on.

Pronouns: He/Him/His. "Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."
