Man Utd are apparently interested in Mings 11:55 - Feb 12 with 4145 viewsStokieBlue

Seems the supporters don't seem too keen on the idea.

Would be good as we'd probably end up with a few hundred thousand as would be a massive deal

£10,000 from non league football. Appreciate that not all players make that step up, but Mings did it comfortably with us. Even when he was playing as a marauding left back you could see he had all the attributes to be a very decent CB. What a signing he has turned out to be, but with his ability Mings has also got the right attitude too and that's probably even more important and a big reason why he's adapted to the step up in standard each time when he has had a transfer. Good luck to him I say, he comes across as decent fella and deserves the riches and accolades that come with it.

On a par with Maguire. Generally sound but with a costly mistake every now and then

As you say, and have particularly enjoyed following the ever upward (so far) trajectory of his career as a result, long may it continue. If he did sign for MU, they'd have two of the most decent human beings in football at front & back of their team.

If only we had offered him more pay and a better contract here to keep him rather than selling when we did. Same with Cresswell the year before, it's all short term here. His sale, and replacement Knudsen was one of the key factors in why we just missed out on the Playoffs in 2015-16. I'd say selling Mings then, releasing Anderson and the Hunts and bringing in Douglas, Knudsen, Coke and co were the key factors in why we didn't break the top 6 twice. We could have probably sold him for more had we not gone up then, but we always cash in and put the football/results second under Evans. He'd have stayed a few extra seasons if we would have matched the pay "massive" Bournemouth were offering him to warm the bench up there.

We get a % of any profit Bournemouth make on him

So if Bournemouth’s sale to Villa includes a sell on and they profit from Villa selling him, then we get a % of that profit

Without sounding ridiculous, Villa bought him for £26m, he's their defensive leader, and they are having a brilliant season based upon their defence.....they would surely not sell for less than £70-80m which means Villa make a £50m profit.......if Bournemouth get 10% of that it nets us £500k.

Obviously not massive money but all helps

He was never going to stay with us, with a move to the premiership on offer and all that it brings to a player.

The problem in 15-16 wasn't selling Mings and buying Knudsen, it was MM trying to change the style of play, which was great for a month, and then rubbish once it all fell apart and we had lost the pressing and work-rate of Anderson, Tabb and Stephen Hunt. We might still have made the play-offs had Fraser not injured his hamstring at QPR.

With what Bournemouth were prepared to pay for Mings it made sense t sell him then, unlike Webster who we sold far too cheaply.

Mings naturally has played a big part this season with regards to their defensive record but the signing of Martinez was a masterstroke. Arsenal got rid of the wrong player, he's a lot better all round keeper than Leno IMO. No surprise that Arsenal had a purple patch when he was in goal end of last season and have looked less than impressive since then and now Villa are having a terrific season. Is that a coincidence?

Not sure he's a United player to be honest but then neither is Maguire. Don't get me wrong Mings is a great CB and I would love to see him get a mega move but something about it doesn't fit for me.

I love watching him play though. His attitude and effort is great to watch.

Truly impaired.

He was pushing for a move to Swansea in the January before we actually sold him. He was never going to stay and we did a good deal with Bournemouth.

Did they ever actually explain their reasoning? I know the username but I'm still none the wiser as to if they were joking, trolling, or just insane.

I particularly liked those in February 2015, when the rigours of a first season in the Championship had caught up with him a little bit, who declared him arrogant and guilty of thinking he had made it.

I can't imagine what it was about Tyrone Mings that triggered that reaction.

Because he’s a dirty player due to the stamping incidents. I assumed they were trolling at first too but wasn’t so sure after as the explanation seemed serious
