All over Talksport again... 11:50 - Feb 16 with 5817 views | Bloots | ....Simon Jordan "Ipswich is a great club" he knows Evans, he's very "affluent" Doesn't understand why Evans bought Ipswich, didn't make economic sense. Clegg didn't fit in with the football "crowd" Fans should have "been careful what they wished for" (classic) Lambert doesn't motivate anyone, plus he's ex Norwich "ITFC are a poor imitation of what they used to be"

Trial and error. And lots of it.

All over Talksport again... on 12:21 - Feb 16 by Nthsuffolkblue | I really do not like Simon Jordan. Which probably makes him the sort of person ME would listen to! |
I thought he put Palace in trouble. Or is that not right?

I think his point was that..... on 12:20 - Feb 16 by PhilTWTD | I'm not sure about that, I think buying a club, spending it to get promoted and then selling it at a higher value - which I think is what most presumed the plan was - was a model which made sense, even if there was risk. Continuing to own the club after 13 years of toil, struggle and ongoing outlay is what makes less sense and the only explanation I've had from those that know Marcus is that there's a determination to get it right. |
The definition of "getting it right" is changeable really isn't it, and by this stage, I think the nearest he could get to "getting it right" would be to recognise he's caused serious damage to something dear to a lot of people's hearts and that he's not the man to fix it, and put his determination into due diligence in finding a buyer who could.

All over Talksport again... on 12:26 - Feb 16 by Chrisd | I appreciate Jordan isn't everybody's cup of tea, but personally I like what he has to say with most things. In our case he's spot on. Most outsiders are seeing us for what we really are, but our owner and manager just carry on as if there isn't a problem. There's no doubt we are a complete mess, it would just be nice to have an owner with ambition and a plan and a manager that wants the best for the club. Unfortunately, for us we have neither! |
He said about 18 months ago or so he could see us in league 2. I really don't think that's far from the truth now, we could very easily go down that route the way things are being run currently.

a 'determination' or a hope that it comes good? I don't see any determination to get things right as he won't learn from his mistakes and get a structure in place to allow the club to move forwards. I really don't think it is just about money, it's how we use it, we don't look too clever in anything we do and appear to be running the club like it's stuck in the mid nineties.

I think for the most people find Jordan offensive because he has an opinion (and bearing in mind that's what he's getting paid for on the Radio and increases this somewhat for effect at times) . Whether I agree with his opinion most of the time is another matter but for now he speaks with greater knowledge of running a football club than most of us here I suppose He's mentioned us a few times in passing and to be fair has been quite scathing and critical of Evans

A determination to get it right coupled with an inability to learn the right lessons from his mistakes. It is a dangerous combination.

i'll always remember Simon Jordan walking down Oxford street with 1, 8/9 out of 10 girls on each arm looking like he owned the place. I thought tw8t, but also fair play to you. [Post edited 16 Feb 2021 13:23]

We were no worse placed than many when he opted in. Potential for promotion to the riches of the PL, good history and fan base, little competition locally of any note. Average levels of affluence in the area to support reasonable ticket sales, good reputation in the wider football world, some talented youth coming through and good academy etc etc.

All over Talksport again... on 12:09 - Feb 16 by PhilTWTD | Of course it made economic sense. In 2008 when the plan was to spend money and get promoted and then presumably sell the club on at a profit. |
And get the debt he paid 20p in the pound for paid back to him in full. We were nothing more than a business gamble for Evans and he blew it. Shame there wasn’t a plan B!

8/10 isn't a stunning girl for us true players

I did read his book about his time owning Palace & it was an entertaining read, while also revealing how rotten the football industry was (probably no longer new news either).

All over Talksport again... on 12:20 - Feb 16 by Sparky85 | What outsiders don't seem to grasp on this is that is it ME's fault on the 'be careful what you wish for comment'. ME saw Ipswich as a quick fix, threw money at RK and got his hands burned He then allowed Jewell to pay silly money for journeymen MM was the right appointment (for once) at the right time, to save us from what looked like nailed on relegation. He failed to back MM when we were top, allowing only 1 loan signing (Jonny Williams) and we then lost in the payoffs. His continual failing to back MM meant that McCarthy had to rely on astute signings and boring football to keep us competitive in the division. This then drove us fans to want MM out. Hurst and Lambert again poor appointments. Its a continual demise under his ownership and has lead us to where we are now. Yes managers get the flack and in most cases rightly so. But it is ME and him alone who has put us in this position with continual failings in appointments (both manager and senior staff) and backing of said managers. Jordan got it spot on about his losses in running a football club. This is the burden you take on when buying a club. You're not in it to make money. So this, in my mind, is not a valid argument for ME failing to act now or for past failures. |

Great post, but this argument we see about Marcus not backing Mick in that January has been proven to be false? I maybe very wrong here, but from what I gather Mick felt he didn't need any additions, I'm sure Phil can confirm.

It's been confirmed dozens of times. Not least by McCarthy himself at the time.
