Player of the season so far? (n/t) on 07:36 - Mar 14 by BseaBlue | I bet he has a better ppg ratio than any other player over the last two seasons. Its not a coincidence he has come back into the side and we start getting good results. |
Chambers has been present for every single league defeat we've had this season, so I'm not sure how he can be credited with "coming back into the side" and causing a resurgence.

Toto and Wilson are ideal CBS for this league. Yes toto makes a mistake but so does everyone but hes a proper cb. Strong. Loves a last minute block etc

I think people under-estimate how useful his aggressiveness as a defender can be sometimes. It's get him into trouble sometimes, but it also makes it way more difficult for opposing strikers to hold the ball up.

Hes like an ankle biter midfielder but at CB. You very rarely see sides trying to use a target man against toto it wont work.

I agree! Wilson for me. I know that there's more to life than stats, and ratings, but of those who have started a league game, no player has been rated an average of over 6.00 on this website over the course of the season, except Wilson who has 6.44. That's one hell of a gap. I appreciate that he has his limitations, and that he's only played half the games, but he really has been the most consistent presence when fit, and our results have been noticeably better when he plays too.

Good centre backs shouldn’t be in a position where they have to make last minute blocks though. Positioning, pace, communication, agility, anticipation and reading of the game should supersede this.

Nsiala only plays OK when with Wilson. With the other 2 he looked as rubbish as them. Really hard to pick, we have so many players and no-one who stands out. It's even worse than went Bullard won it playing very few games. Least he was head and shoulders above anyone else. It has to be Wilson purely on the fact we seem to do well when he plays.

but you are banging the drum for chambers? who hasn't been awful, but at times has been consistent, ..... but not enough to be a contender for POTS for me.

Chambers is the stand out by such a distance. Players should have to play at the very minimum half the games to be considered. Even with that Wilson is a stopper at best, he is doing well for him but he is a long way off pots. Kenlock and nsiala seem to be doing a lot of covering for him. The only other contenders are Dozzell and Bishop but I have Chambers ahead of them both

If we had Janoi Donacien playing right back, contributing 0 open-play assists from October and failing to complete 1 pass in every 3, we'd be absolutely howling about how useless he was.

I'm not those that have to form their opinion based on stats would. Some see the game themselves though

There's a lot of "confirmation bias" involved in just seeing the game yourself and ignoring stats, I would've thought. Besides which, "no attacking contribution that wasn't winning a header at a set piece in 20 matches of football" barely qualifies as a statistic, more just a summary of his attacking play. Didn't stop the fans voting Bullard as player of the year in 2011 despite playing 16 games on loan. Chambers has a had a fare better season than I thought he was capable of, but there is a direct correlation between Wilson being in the team and our two periods of good form.

Player of the season so far? (n/t) on 08:23 - Mar 15 with 1248 views | gordon | Checking the appearances stats there aren't many players who've played more than half of our games - of those that have it's Chambers if he carries on as he is, or Bishop or Dozzell if either has a good end to the season. Kenlock and Wilson have been good when they've been on the pitch as well.

and one of Bart's wins was when he played less than 50% of the games. Earlier in this thread, I put Wilson down as a leading contender which on performance in comparison with most others he is but I previously set my own criteria that to be considered for player of the season someone had to play in 66% of the games. Even if Wilson plays every game from now on in he is not going to reach that percentage.
Player of the season so far? (n/t) on 09:08 - Mar 15 with 1222 views | TheGentlemanViking | I'd have to say Chambo. It's between him and Dozzell for most consistent but LC just tips it for me. If Wilson continues his run of form though it's got to be him, we've looked so much more secure with him in the team and it's no surprise that we're looking a threat from set plays with him in the side. I do find it worrying that we're struggling to find any attacking players who have been anything better than bang average this season. Bishop started brightly but tailed off, Edwards looked sharp but got injured, Judge has only just started coming good and Norwood needs another 5-6 games. One of them at least needs to really step up now and help us push on.

Half a decade since we've given our POTY to an outfield player who was actively good tells a story, doesn't it? Hopefully somebody makes a more compelling case than "appeared regularly" between now and the end of the season.
