Fans visible and vocal in the stadium. No VAR checks on the goal area melees. Crisp passing running football from a side of majority British players. I don't recognise this Premier League football!
TWTD, I forgot about this 3-0 away win I always remenise about the Southampton 3-0 away win Marcus Stewart hat-trick. But this Everton win has some great Wrighty goalkeeping. Taking away Wright and Stewart for the following season 2001/2002 and the goal differences would be costly.

The final goal was handed to us, BUT when Stewart rounded the keeper there were still 3 Town players in the 6 yard box in support. I am not sure we have had 4 players in an opposition 6 yard box all season.......including at corners.......

Some on here would use that incident as evidence that Burley is “out of touch” with the modern game as what the team should be doing in that move is passing it around our back four.

"The game has moved on"
4 players wanting to score. When did we last have that? haha
Even though this period was short lived, I'm glad I' was able to watch the few seasons leading up to this and the couple in the premier league despite getting relegated second season.
Apart from the couple of seasons' after, there hasn't bee a lot to cheer about.

Richard Wright was under rated. We still have some people say he wasn't good. I'f we'd have given Wright a contract worth whatever we were paying him plus what we paid for Sereni to keep him we would have never gone down. Also Burley was foolish for pushing Naylor down the pack as he was superb, causing the chaos needed to make goals. We didn't have that the season after.

Plug's an enigma for me, whilst he was great for us, the rest of his career suggests otherwise, lasted 12 games at Arsenal, and got replaced by a geriatric Nigel Martyn at Everton. I think you could class him as someone who never reached his potential.
If you ask Ipswich fans he was the best keeper since Paul Cooper, if you ask Arsenal and Everton fans then he would probably go down as one the banter signings.

Wright wanted to leave. If Arsenal come in for you, you go.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

TWTD's....I was watching a local rugby match with an Everton supporter who couldn't believe the result.
Just reminds me of how the young town fans have been so devoid of any great days over the last 'few' years
Totally true. I just missed out on the Bobby Robson era, but was still sufficiently close to it to gain an understanding of our culture/heritage, something the was reinforced through to the end of Burley's rein. No-one who has started watching since Royle was sacked (Magilton understood the culture/heritage but didn't set his teams up to play the 'Ipswich way') can really have a full understanding of what we should be about, nor have they had the chance to watch us play decent football and that is very sad.

That's why you have to pay more to keep your stars. If we had offered him silly money he'd have either stayed or got more than that from Arsenal.
Selling Wright and Scowcroft in one window (and Johno shortly beforehand) was probably one of the stupidest things we've ever done, you couple that with Burley falling out with Naylor and Wilnis and you had a disaster in the making! Also those almost sky-blue kits never did seem right...
