Will our players start performing now and is it too late for them if they do? 09:39 - Apr 8 with 1451 views | armadaleblue | Under Evans the players coming to the end of contract didn’t have to fear being replaced by new paid for signings, so were able to be fairly confident of contract extension. I would say the takeover has turned this on its head, and now they have a few games to shine and claim the same contract extension. I hope this brings an immediate impact on results, as I’m not sure I can handle watching another game like Monday’s. Only problem with this theory is I’m not sure the players are good enough to perform and challenge for top 6. I guess we will all see on Saturday. [Post edited 8 Apr 2021 10:01]

I think you are probably right. What I'm hoping for is that MO'L and BJ speak to the players at some point and the infectious positivity that they seem to have rubs off on the players in the same way it has on us. I honestly think there was some element of being fed up playing under Evans, I've known loads of really really nice people who turned out to be awful awful managers and leaders. We're only three points behind, sides in this league are dropping points constantly, its not impossible that we could be in the mix in 8 games time. Right now, as it stands I can't see how we could beat the third or fourth placed side over two legs, but if we were somehow able to build some momentum, then who knows?

I've got this lovely feeling that saturday we will see downes KVY. Dobra. Bennetts and Norwood all starting That would win the game imo.

It's less about learning than fitness and confidence, Lambert was negligent in both aspects. I doubt the takeover makes much difference to the prospects of most of the players here now, many need to move for their own good and the club needs players not tainted by the last three years. There may be a case to be made to someone like Downes about being part of a promotion season and winning team but doubt that will win out if a Premier League club wants him (to then loan out to the Championship).

Going through and comparing the body differences in players like Norwood. Judge. Edwards. Sears. Its very clear we have had no control over our players fitness. Massive differences when you look at them.

Now he's chopping and changing maybe he'll stumble across something effective enough for the rest of the season.

Haynes you keep saying wasted. It was the same formation used all season. All he was trying to do was add to it by trying to get them to play higher up. Your final point is typical. You moaned that he did the above. Now your moaning that hes tried something else. Why not just admit it's not PC it's the players!

Buzzing when 90% of the OOC players are released. Southend on the horizon for them.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I'm happy he's chopping and changing. I fundamentally believe he did waste those early games, like you say the formation was used all season and it was clear to every man and his dog (and repeatedly stated on here) that it didn't suit our personnel and was a major criticism of Lambert for persisting with it.

But according to you and others we were 1 point off playoffs and it's got worse under PC So surely you would have been happy he was using the same formation that had got us to 1 point off the playoffs no?

Will our players start performing now and is it too late for them if they do? on 10:25 - Apr 8 with 1187 views | J2BLUE | As long as they think it's not too late... The defence is top 5 in the league. The likes of Chambers can definitely earn a new deal IMO. People in football have very short memories. These players should be playing for their next contract wherever that may be. If someone like Edwards scores 2-3 goals and gets 3-4 assists before the end of the season suddenly there will be plenty of takers. Of course there may be others who won't want any of this new ambitious Ipswich and would rather move somewhere safely in mid table.

(n on 10:28 - Apr 8 with 1176 views | jayessess | Realistically with 15 players out of contract, any that find a rich vein of form between now and the end of the season are going to be in with a shout of an extension. There's going to be so much recruitment to do over the Summer, if there's anyone that makes a decent case they can contribute next year then that'll be one less to recruit. So what does suit our personnel? An afternoon in the boozer? Lambert, Hurst, Keane and Jewell didn’t know a team from a teapot. MM did and had the players to play it his way. Cook doesn’t have the players and won’t be able do anything until a lot of the dross is swept out of the door. They need to be replaced with his players. Until the seasons end I actually pity the bloke getting pelters off people expecting him to raise this sorry lot like Lazarus. If he’d managed that he’d been manager of the century, let alone season.

It did get worse. We got further away. So basically he made us even less effective in a formation that already didn't work for us. That was basically my criticism from the start. And apparently he agrees, because he's been changing it.

So we agree then the players have let him down. Glad to have resolved it

Players let him down / he was incapable of getting as much out of the players as Lambert, who was awful himself. We'll know more next season I guess.

Let's not rewrite this, Lambert got virtually nothing out of the side for his entire tenure. Barring two early season runs we've been mid to lower-mid table dross for the past two seasons. And ironically our good start this season came playing a 4-2-3-1.
