Have been reliably informed that he is in discussions re. ITFC CEO vacancy.

Resigned from his role at Celtic to "pursue new opportunities" a week or so ago.

To give a serious answer to a joke comment, having spoken to people who knew what was happening as it happened since Wednesday, it had stalled on more than one occasion. Was very on-off over a fairly lengthy period and only finally got absolutely done early this week, although obviously the framework of the deal had been settled by that stage.

I hold my hands up that I should have had a story up at the weekend to say it was happening and again on Wednesday morning but for every source telling me it was happening, and I had a number of usually reliable ones telling me that was the case, someone else who I thought ought to know was saying they weren't aware that that was the case. I had a story written and should have gone with it earlier and the announcement came just as I felt I had enough to run it.

Phil, you are still 'my man' for what it's worth.

Anyone can have a Michael Fish moment.

I think it was virtually impossible for you to get an exclusive given the way it would have played out. The risk/reward of calling it "done" and getting it wrong just doesn't stack up, there's little to be gained from being the first to call it (by a matter of minutes) versus having credibility blown for getting it wrong.

I think Evans probably told all parties he was willing to do the deal around Wednesday last week, final engrossments circulated over Easter and completed on the first working day back.

Personally I was about 95% sure we were going to see it happen within a week after the new searches were lodged, but it's still not 100% is it.

Ignore the above.

What my client meant to say was that under the terms and conditions of use each poster's content is copyright and may not be copied and used in any form without prior permission from TWTD.. Therefore all of Greyhound's posts were indeed a TWTD exclusive as Greyhound is a much loved member of the TWTD family.

My client has no further comment and if you don't want to find a ban hammer being swung at your face you won't comment either.

Truly impaired.

The thing is, as a proper journalist Phil has to be absolutely sure, while greyhound just posting on a football messageboard it doesn't really matter to him if it falls through at the last.

Whilst clearly greyhound knew something he also had fortune on his side given he posted it was done on Saturday and Marcus didn't finally sign off until Tuesday.

Many with no stake in it other than fan interest could feel by the strength and forthright manner of the case presented by posters such as Muncher/ Greyhound etc that there would more likely be something to see on Wednesday/Thursday than not - and opened up TWTD with feelings of anticipation overshadowing their doubt. They were prepared to be proved wrong, but it felt right.

Don't be tempted to row back on your handsome apology now that scepticism need not be the order of the TWTD day.

That is true but we are a Championship club in League One, if that doesn't sound arrogant.

The vitriol towards Ashton from the Bristol City fans is completely unsustainable, so no doubt he and the owner are looking to clean the slate and have a fresh start.

The overriding feeling is that at Bristol City is that Ashton* is the cause of an appalling squad that ironically 'lacks character' and that Pearson** should be kept on with a new CEO.

*Not sure Ashton can be entirely to blame
** A minority of fans questioning Pearson ability given lack of tangible improvement (sound familiar?)

No, and I did anticipate one of my sources in particular knowing when it was done and dusted but that didn't pan out as I had expected.

Probably right re the second paragraph and agree, the fact that the first searches were in place for such a long time meant there was no guarantee. In the end, there was no need for the second searches, was there? The first ones hadn't elapsed, had they?

Didn't they elapse on the 8th April? IIRC.

The need for profits etc is what Mark Ashton is very very good at, yes there are alot of fans that don't like him, but from the clubs point of view, he is an ideal CEO in all aspects.
Experienced, knows English football. Knows how to turn academy players into profits, knows how to get alot of money for players.

As long as there is a very stern talk that PC is incharge of managing the team, and there is 0 interference from M/A in this, there's no reason we should be concerned.

Just how does a CEO (or whatever) turn academy players into profits? Surely that’s the coaches job.

No, he clearly knew stuff. He just went slightly early and it paid off. My apology stands and I'm going to try to be a nicer poster from now on.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

It's being able to sell academy players before they even have a 1st team appearance.

You think. Not every academy player will play for the first team and if they dont... theyll just be released when professional contract ends.

We may have for example 2 really good strikers. But we only play with 1 so he odds on them getting a 1st team place is low.. rsther than losing them for nothing. We branch out and offer them out for fees including appearence top ups etc.

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.
