Does he play like one? I’d watched enough of Dozzell last season to know he doesn’t have that drive to take him to the next level. This season has done nothing to change my opinion. If I was the son of a Town legend, I’d be leaving my heart and soul on that pitch after every 90 minutes to emulate my dad and to build my career. What have we got instead? A season of absent, abject, forgettable performances where you rarely know he’s on the pitch. No doubt Cook was referring to him with his comments this week about being accelerated to the first team too quickly, along with a few others.

Dozzell treats each game like a practice session and coasts from game to game with a rather distant, bemused look on his face. Given the option, I’d rather play the 35-year old Skuse next to Downes for the last games just to see the difference and really highlight how ineffective and forgettable he’s rapidly becoming.

I saw one good sharp pass into Edwards feet today, that was it. One pass.

I must have been looking at my phone then as I didn’t see Dozzell hit the bar from a free kick. I saw a defender head it against his own bar from a Dozzell free kick though!

Don’t think that undermines my point tbh. I was responding to the poster who said Dozzell ‘never hits set pieces with pace’ - clearly he did yesterday, and we very nearly scored from it. Suspect it would have gone down as a Dozzell goal as well because it looked on target.

I think it fits perfectly. Bills himself as a Rolls Royce, is actually a Skoda (before they became half reasonable).

Never heard him utter one sentence which suggests he believes any of the hype about himself.

If we get a decent offer then sell if Cook wants to but if not then it will be fascinating to see him in what is hopefully a good team. I suspect many of these negative comments won't age well.

He played two good passes first time over the right back within the first 10 minutes and Bishop managed to be offside both times. If those were played to someone who knew how to run in behind your post would be about the two goals crafted by the beautiful first time passes by Dozzell.

This just highlights that one player can't do things entirely on his own. He's not been great this season but he also doesn't have any of the required runners around him to make use of his passing. It's all very well saying you only saw one pass but barely anyone offers for him during a match. If no pass is possible what do you want him to do?

Skuse did nothing when he came on, even less than Dozzell so I can't agree with that suggestion.

I could easily argue that Bishop’s run was well timed but Dozzell didn’t see it til too late and by that time the bend on his run had become too shallow and he was offside. I saw Dozzell play many terrible passes yesterday. Either way, he’s played a whole season in that position and hasn’t once dominated a game, dictated the tempo or created much of note consistently. A DLP needs to be an orchestrator - he’s not at that level yet.

What's mad is maybe 3 or 4 times a season we've seen him produce an absolute peraler of a pass and you think where did that come from?

That's the most infuriating thing is he has skill but he just goes missing. He's a bit L1 Mesut Ozil in that respect (but by no means I am suggesting the 2 are comparable in any other way) I suspect in a team that can carry him he looks good because those few moments stick out rather than the numerous errors

I'm saying it as i see it now, not with another season or two hindsight. There's a lot of finger pointing on here when things go against previous comments. Its kind of childish really as no-one can predict the future, all we can do is discuss what we see at the time in as much of an objective manner as possible.

We all hope Dozzell does well for the club, no dount. He's contracted for another two seasons but he's wasted a golden opportunity this season to make a mark. In my experience, players who drift in and out of games constantly will always do it but good players, even if playing badly, will stand-up and be counted.

Dozzell has been going through the motions for most of his starts this season and only he can change that, he shouldn't be reliant on the quality or the form of other players around him.

Exactly. Some people rate him, some people don’t. This is an ITFC forum, exactly the place for such conversations. I’ve no idea why some people get so defensive over Dozzell. I get it that we all want him to be good because we have fond memories of his dad and it would be lovely if he was. Some people think he is, some think he isn’t. No need for all the drama over it.

The biggest problem with Andre, isn't his lack of talent, far from it, it's the fact that teams have found a way to nullify his game.

That can be overcome by having someone alongside him to shield him from his opposite number.

Downes is s very good player but I just think he's trying to hard and like others, desperately trying to find his own form rather than try and work in a cohesive pattern.

Get that right next season and both of those fully firing would do untold damage. A decent hard working striker would be delighted to have someone like Dozzell feeding him.

You couldn't argue that though because I believe both passes were first time without taking a touch to control so he couldn't have passed it earlier or seen it earlier.

Who would dominate a game playing for us? You totally ignore the second half of my post citing that one player can't do that, certainly not at this level and you ignored the fact he has no willing runners.

Why would you expect a "DLP" of his age and experience to be at that level? It's unrealistic and seems like you are basing that on him being the son of a legend.

Or to put it another way, we need partnerships all over the pitch of players that compliment each other and know the runs that each other will do.

We have been a group of individuals for several seasons now. Norwood and Jackson struck up a partnership for a while and we have had a couple of defensive partnerships. I thought KVY and Dobra linked up well second half yesterday as well. We need to build a team full of partnerships though.

I like it when people start these 'boooo Dozzell' threads. It means you can quickly identify all the football illiterates who don't appreciate the wider game or how it works.

See also: Cole Skuse, Jermain Wright, Jim Magilton.

The best crap pass I remember seeing at Portman road was from Magiltion.

He received the ball in the centre of the pitch his back to a player who had started a run on the right on the right wing (can't remember who). He must have seen the run out of the corner of his eye, he dropped a shoulder, beat a man and with out looking up he played a defence splitting ball into the space in front of the player making the run. It would have been a one on one with the keeper. The only problem was that the player had stopped his run. A good portion of the stadium groaned as the ball trickled to the keeper and a few quite around me were giving Magilton stick, but everything Magiltion did in that move was superb.

I think he has vision which a lot of others in the team do not. He plays clever, defence splitting balls, but if nobody else is on the same wavelength then they look wasteful. This sort of stuff looks effortless when you have a real connection with those playing around you but that doesn't seem to be happening with us.

As Badger pointed out Magilton got stick from some of our fan base, often due to him having better vision than the players around him. Dozzell is getting stick in a similar way all be it at a different level of football.

As someone else pointed out already on this thread, Dozzell played some great balls to players that were offside yesterday. If you put players in front of him that make runs and can stay on-side, that's when we will see the best of him. There is a good player in him but to get the best out of him he needs energy and progressive forward runs in front of him.....we haven't had that in our side for a good while, at least not consistently.

How do you know? That's actually the mindset of someone quite comfortable bullying others.

Maybe one day you'll mature beyond this 'It doesn't impact me so therefore it doesn't impact anyone' mentality you have.
