Does he play like one? I’d watched enough of Dozzell last season to know he doesn’t have that drive to take him to the next level. This season has done nothing to change my opinion. If I was the son of a Town legend, I’d be leaving my heart and soul on that pitch after every 90 minutes to emulate my dad and to build my career. What have we got instead? A season of absent, abject, forgettable performances where you rarely know he’s on the pitch. No doubt Cook was referring to him with his comments this week about being accelerated to the first team too quickly, along with a few others.

Dozzell treats each game like a practice session and coasts from game to game with a rather distant, bemused look on his face. Given the option, I’d rather play the 35-year old Skuse next to Downes for the last games just to see the difference and really highlight how ineffective and forgettable he’s rapidly becoming.

I saw one good sharp pass into Edwards feet today, that was it. One pass.

It just makes you look like you’re trying too hard to be overly woke. This is a football forum, nobody is going to be worried about pro nouns.

Well someone seems to be interested enough...

You are the biggest bully on here so I won’t be listening to lectures from you about bullying.

Imagine a grown adult typing that sentence out, reading it back to themselves, and then hitting the 'Add Reply'! button!

If you're telling me that enough people throughout your life have refused to acknowledge you as how you truly identify - a magnificence - that it's causing you depression, general day to day difficulty, or some other mental health crisis then of course I'll refer to you as 'Your Magnificence' J2!

Since you haven’t specified the subject/object/possessive, maybe there is some confusion.

Subjectively you think of yourself in the magnificence, objectively, impotence maybe more correct.

You couldn't argue that though because I believe both passes were first time without taking a touch to control so he couldn't have passed it earlier or seen it earlier.

Who would dominate a game playing for us? You totally ignore the second half of my post citing that one player can't do that, certainly not at this level and you ignored the fact he has no willing runners.

Why would you expect a "DLP" of his age and experience to be at that level? It's unrealistic and seems like you are basing that on him being the son of a legend.

I’d have to watch the game back to look at the passes in question in truth.

Regarding dominating games, Downes has the ability to do it and makes a huge difference to the way we play. Age shouldn’t have anything to do with it, it’s the old saying, “if you’re good enough, you’re old enough”. Rudoni and Assam were far more influential for Wimbledon during the game and they’re younger than Dozzell. They’re not DLPs but it’s immaterial really. A whole season in a league One, surely we should be expecting more from him given his international youth pedigree?

So from reading all the above I have discovered that he's an underperforming, not particularly influential midfielder having a poor season in a below average third division team.

Sounds good, sign him up......

If he was playing for an opposition team we would be saying that he was overated.

At the moment he reminds me a lot of Owen Garvan - great technique and poise which suggests there’s a really good player in there ready to come out with some decent coaching and a wiser head or two around to guide him along. But it could be that he just doesn’t have the extra level and will never hit the hieghts, just like Garvan. He had a couple of decent season here, got a deal at Palace, but never kicked on and fairly soon started to drop down the leagues.

I agree Downes has the ability to dominate games, but he’s not doing it at the moment, is he?

He’s been poor in most of the games he’s played in since Cook came in (yes, I realise lots of players have), but after every game we have to have a new thread criticising Dozzell - even after games when the manager says he was one of our best players. At the same time barely anyone mentions Flynn. Why is that?

If you only read the posts that back up your existing opinion of him, yes. If you read the whole thread you’d see it’s been a lot more balanced than that.

Dozzell is always a player who will get criticised, just has that style about him which looks lazy when reality is he works his nuts off and has improved no end defensively this season......whilst playing in a team that has no movement in the forward positions at all.

A season along Downes in there and we would be in a better place, but Downes looks like he is going into his shell week on week at the moment
