They're not even trying anymore are they? 04:12 - May 28 with 8223 viewsSpruceMoose

Imagine being a man, recently and publicly accused of lying, telling more easy to fact check lies.

They don't care that we know they lie anymore. As a leftie I obviously know the Conservatives aren't to be trusted, ever, but how are Conservative voters themselves not bothered about being cucked every day by the guys they support, and quite often give their presumably hard earned money to?

Based on what?

It's just like the 90's. Tories been in too long and Labour have a new voice with a young dynamic leader. I could see history repeating itself. All irrelevant of course as Starmer is leader. Ive nothing against Starmer by the way i just think he's too wooden and doesn't resonate with the electorate.

I'm not fan of Starmer either.

But society has changed since the 90s. A simple leadership change isn't going to cut it for Labour anymore.

It didn’t in the 90s either - Blair had to overhaul Labour’s approach and image (aided before him by Kinnock and Smith) to have a chance.

I actually think this government is so bad it would. We'll have to agree to disagree. Sadly we won't find out.

I'm no fan of Blair either, but imagine him trying to do that in the face of the massive misinformation campaigns and fake news circus that exist online and on social media these days.

I doubt we will either. But I also don't detect much weariness or dislike of what the Conservatives are doing. It's not like the mainstream are crying out for an alternative - they keep voting for them enthusiastically at every opportunity!

He managed it because he schmoozed those behind the misinformation campaigns and fake news. I’m not saying that he went around agreeing with racists but he made sure those who had influence were in the tent with him.

Getting Murdoch on side and having a media savvy spin doctor in Campbell waere no small factors either. It's doubtful that either of those could be replicated now. Social media has moved strongly into the former paper territory and why have spin when you just just publish blatant lies and not be called up on it.

You’ve worked extremely hard to achieve the utter disdain you now wallow in.

No, that coalition that Blair took advantage of has gone now. In no small part to Blair himself and New Labour.

The traditional dyed-in-the-wool Labour voters in Scotland and subsequently the North have gone elsewhere. And there’s a significant number of progressives who want nothing to do with bland, establishment-fellating and personally enriching centrism either. They’re voting Green, for example, or will focus on movements outside the system instead.

Labour need to pull their collective finger out and be a relevant party for 2021 and its challenges. Not some Blairite tribute act because they a) don’t have any ideas and/or b) it’s in their own personal interests to chase the power, influence and money that come with propping up the status quo.

Which party did you vote for?

For most of my life I voted Labour, but since Brexit I have voted Conservative. Labour really annoyed me with blocking the referendum result. They are finished in my opinion. Scottish voters have turned to the SNP & English voters have turned Conservative. They have become so negative these days & I just cant vote for negativity. The general public have rejected socialism & certainly dont want any of Corbyn, Abbott, Butler, etc, anywhere near running the country. I recall Blair's victory in 97, a landmark vote that, but Labour had got rid of the hard left & copied a lot of Bill Clintons progressive policies & were a very credible & electable alternative. Sadly Blair's infatuation with the US, Iraq lies, unlimited immigration, & not selecting David Milliband as Blairs replacement have cost them. They are not credible or electable today.

I'm with you on rejecting negativity. I'm having a very hard time coming up with a positive, outward looking, forward facing policy implemented by the Conservatives though. For at least the last decade Conservative politics has been the politics of grievance, gaslighting, complaint, blame and lies, don't you think?

I agree with what you say about Labour, but I can't follow your logic of jumping ship to the Conservatives as they are objectively worse on multiple fronts.

" They are not credible or electable"

But you think the tories are, even after a decade of austerity which was responsible for thousands of premature deaths, and now their handling of the pandemic which is responsible for thousands of premature deaths. Brexit, are you happy with that so far?

I have to wonder what you were so afraid of that Labour would be worse than that.

To be fair, on this thread he's being bullied by others, and not the other way around ("pathetic troll", "what is the point of you?" - all that nonsense which is quite unnecessary in a grown-up discussion).

If politics must be discussed (and he didn't start the thread), everyone is equally entitled to air his/her views.
