Imagine being a man, recently and publicly accused of lying, telling more easy to fact check lies.
They don't care that we know they lie anymore. As a leftie I obviously know the Conservatives aren't to be trusted, ever, but how are Conservative voters themselves not bothered about being cucked every day by the guys they support, and quite often give their presumably hard earned money to?

A more pertinent question in response to such a statement is surely to request evidence.
"All politicians" for "as long as I can remember". May take some time to compile.
Its the same old tired response from Tory supporters. If its the Tories found lying or corrupt then the response is - well politicians all do it. If it was Labour caught red-handed then it would only be pertinent to that party.

Cameron, Blair, Osborne, Obama (yes even he), Corbyn, Johnson, Bercow, etc etc have all told porkies to the British public in recent history - and I can go back a lot further than that. Your dislike for the current government (and I get some of it) creates a hostility in my opinion (to which I am entitled) in which I do not wish to participate. Now be as kind as or as nasty as you wish, but I really have to get these bedding plants in or I will be cursed by someone who really has to be obeyed.
But now we're just back to "they all do it" which doesn't help.
The lies of the former do not excuse the latter. this will continue to be true.

And the issue is politicians have failings that we all do - the nature of self preservation. Whilst in opposition it’s easy to say we’ll put a structure in place to reduce sleaze but, if power is obtained, then it’s even easier to look the other way. Self-preservation kicks in and people do not want to put regulations on play which might trip them up further down the line.

In an ideal world none of us would lie. I refuse to single out one person, when we live in a society where the behaviour of most of its citizens could be vastly improved. I refuse to put myself on a pedestal and suggest that I am more worthy than someone else. Politics is a horrible, ugly, disrespectful and bitter profession; it always has been, there is nothing new happening around us that has not happened before. All you are looking for is for me to either agree with you wholeheartedly, or disagree with you to commence a torrent of posts between us; I refuse to do either, but have in my opinion been honest with my answer.
Really? Nothing new? I think the current trajectory is a very dangerous sleepwalk into new territory under these English nationalist populists.

It seems to be the case were heading into new ground. All this talk of being held to account doesn't ring true either. I see little evidence of this particular government being held to account. People voting for them doesn't mean they've been required to explain or justify the lies and take responsibility. The opposite is happening. They defend lies with yet more lies and are attacking and weakening the very institutions that can hold them to account (the judiciary and legal framework, independent media (the BBC) and not least the public by tightening up on rights to protest).

The structure should not be up to them. As someone else said, Corporations have a higher responsibility to tell the truth than the people actually running the country.
To me that is a problem, as is the reaction of acceptance from people.

Makes me quite sad if I'm honest.
I suppose the question is who should put in place the structure of not the Government? If it’s the monarch it’d be seen as over-reaching, if it is the Lords then they’re not elected and a second chamber would have the same issues as the first.
It’s why a change in the electoral system may be the first foot forward - so, like abroad, the government does not have so much power over the opposition because more often that not they have to be a part of a coalition of minority control.

Agreed, I certainly don't think there's an easy answer without at least a small overhaul in how our democracy works which I can't see happening any time soon.

This could, should and sometimes is a very good forum - several folk have loads more information, awareness, political astuteness and time than I possess. What it does not have in abundance is tolerance, humilty and the wherewithal to grasp that the delivery is just as important as the message. I will jump in and out every so often, just to see what is being said etc, but the hypocrisy in name calling and language used is to be honest degrading at times. I decided my time of any meaningful discussion was up when a reply to one of my posts was met with a ' what makes you moist about Boris Johnson ' reply. I prefer a more adult conversation.....
" the hypocrisy in name calling and language used is to be honest degrading at times..."
Look Paz doesn't like it when you point out his hypocrisy, and that he has used bad language.
You will get down arrows, just sayin.

What is quite amusing is the number of people that are are quite happy to be taken for complete mugs.
Hence me using the word 'cucked' in my original post.

I can't stand any of them, liars and philanderers the lot of them.
If there was a viable opposition party the country could get behind then there would be far less apathy towards the government lies. But what's a viable alternative? The opposition don't even hold them to account do they?
The whole thing is a disgrace in my opinion.

I genuinely don't understand it. They would genuinely rather the country be run into the ground, as long as it 'upsets the lefties'.
And by lefties they mean anyone that doesn't support the current version of the Tories. It's quite staggering some of the people that get referred to as lefties these days.

Out of interest, what would Labour holding the government to account look like to you? They've been doing that every Wednesday for a decade and the public can't be arsed to sit up and take notice.
The fact is, plenty of people like what the Conservatives are doing and they don't care about the lies and corruption. All of the replies on here refusing to condemn the Conservatives are just fancy, mealy mouthed ways of trying to not admit that.

No, until the oppositiin oarties are willing to lie the nothing here will change
Brexit was, and still is, about racism ....mostly aimed at muslims, which ties in with a fear 'they are taking over' as shown by footballers kneeling before a game, BLM protests and so many minor incudents that are paraded through the gutter press.
As the Tories are the only ones to be stating they intend to do 'something about this' then they will get the support of a far greater number ofvoters than reasoned folk might think is there.
That's why the huge economic failure of brexit has had little effect, the sheer incompetence of dealing with covid and the continuous list of blatant lies have had little effect on that support.
A hard reality for those of an open minded and tolerant outlook to come to terms with - but that is pretty much what it is.

Persuade Andy Burnham to be leader. They win the next election.
