New poster here, have been reading for around 15 years but couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of you lot but I had an interesting chat when I was out on the mariner last night.

Got chatting to Luke chambers.

He seemed quite emotional talking about the decline of the club in the last few years. He said without the togetherness of a few players, we would have been in a much worse position than now.

What was interesting was his view on Paul cook, thinks he’s an absolute tool, apparently virtually everyone that was at the club back end of last season thinks the same.

He also advised that mark ashton had interviewed him twice in the past and said that he doesn’t have the credentials…

I understand he may just be bitter but I thought it was interesting.

He also said he is either signing a two year deal with Colchester or gillingham this week. He said he’s virtually settled on Colchester though.

This is factual incorrect. Saw him drunk in The Cricketers.

....so why would he say that after publicly praising Cook for last weeks signings. 🤦‍♂️

I did think that too many were very keen to dismiss something that seemed quite plausible.

This is a view shared by current squad members which I shared a couple of weeks ago.

Sour grapes I put it down to.

This whole thread makes me a bit sad to be honest.

For a while common sense suggested that Chambers was part of the rot that needed to be cut out of the club. I didn’t want to believe it. If the substance of this thread is even remotely accurate then it is true with bells on and a big part of why the surgery now needs to be so deep. Pity.

For someone on his way to the toilet, Chambers had an awful lot of information to share with someone, I presume, he didn't know beforehand.

Was it one those awkward type conversations at the urinals?

No urinals at the mariners, only one toilet. He was on his way in while I made my way out.

Do you want the CCTV footage? I think im getting it anyway because my missus fancied him so if you want a copy let me know

I don’t think it’s that, they just haven’t been treated with any respect by the new management.

He’s come in and ended their careers, from what I understand he’s not universally popular amongst ex players. But is obviously a good manager and players out up with things for success as it brings them money and progress.

A friend of mine’s nephew played under him at Pompey, and was one of his stalwarts and couldn’t stick him

That does seem strange, considering the amount of Players who follow him around.

Without obviously asking for too many details, what dont they like about him. Or is it just a case that he is a bit ruthless and cutthroat? Which I assume goes down differently with different people.

The fact that he spoke with a complete stranger in a toilet like this says an awful lot about Chambers.

Togetherness of a few players? That’ll be he togetherness that got us relegated with ease and 11th and 9th finishes in the old 3rd division. Wow! Togetherness that threw their overpaid rear ends in the air against the likes of Swindon, Gillingham, Northampton and Wimbledon. Wonderful. Thanks Luke.

Maybe that togetherness was latterly about forcing Cook out, given what they felt about him. Let’s face it, they didn’t exactly put a shift in at Wimbledon or Northampton. Why worry about play offs when ‘doing a Hurst’ on him might extend their comfy life in mediocrity? Chambers was club Captain. Where was he in all this? Did he back the manager or give him the single finger with the rest? Think we know the answer now.

Sounds to me like he was part of the problem and I can fully understand why the manager wants the lot out. I would in his shoes, because who can he trust? If Cook doesn’t get it right he will soon be gone anyway but with the deadwood he inherited he would certainly have failed..

On the upside, more has been done at the club in 3 months than in 14 years. Bring it on!

We also both got told off for taking our masks off, I think we brushed winkies at one point.

I accept everyone’s apologies anyway

Players follow Steve Evans around, look how many ex Sunderland players came here who had played under Keane when he was a terrible manager - guess some like comfort of it, and Cook has been a success everywhere so they may put up with things as get their win and promotion bonuses which is important - better the devil you know and all that.

I think his first attitude was to say after 3 wins we were playing rubbish, that he didn’t like style etc
and just it was all stick and no carrot and what was being said publicly was very different to private and all very false.

As with anything If Cook is a success none of this will matter, and if he isn’t then all this will continue coming out - because no one who was here last year wants to play for him currently after how they were treated

Chambers specifically was offered a deal for next season and then after a few games of sitting on bench it was withdrawn. He wouldn’t have played that last game bar KVY being injured and wanted to get to 400 games but sat behind McGuinness.

I think we can all see what is going on here.

Luke was out with Itfcjoe, got a bit bored of the conversation, he wants to get away from all the football talk, decided to take a bit of break, and had to invent a bit of a story for why he was away, going to the “toilet” for so long.
He was actually WhatsApp-ing his parter, and waiting for the conversation to be turned solidly away from ITFC and onto the Masked Dancer.

Now Luke realised, the substantial conversation he claimed to have would be reported by someone, so had to keep the charade going by posting a story on social media. Just in case Joe was suspicious. Cause he knows Joe does quite a bit of ITFC related social media see.

Well, maybe mate. I suppose it depends how you look at it.

We want Cook to do a good job for us and I don't want to believe negative stuff about him.

But LC has always come across as a really good bloke too.

I know what you mean, if you're saying he should be keeping quiet but without the knowing the rest it's not my place, if you know what I mean.

The problem over the years has been bad managers, Hurst and Lambert have been very poor and the players have been an honest bunch - probably under Lambert too honest as would have prob been better for the club had they rebelled more against the rubbish we were subjected to and set up to play this season. The more direct style favoured by the players is what you saw under Gill for the 4 or so games before Cook came in.

Cook has come in with a sledgehammer, hopefully it all works out well - but the results of his time here and what the current squad think of him will not help going forwards. But he is being very well backed so hopefully that doesn’t matter

Well I saw that as a way to break the ice for a new poster.

Anyway, when a new poster joins the forum, they're usually thought to be Norwich fans or general trolls and aren't welcomed with open arms.

Seeing 'Norfolk' in the name doesn't make you want to immediately hug them!

Everything you write about Cook is negative yet his record in this division is very good. It's personal isn't it. I get that if you're friends with Chambers etc but this club has been an easy ride for many for too long. I like the ruthlessness and it's long overdue. It didn't do Ferguson any harm. Different level i know but you get my point.

'an honest bunch' - I think you need to define honest...most of them seem to have put their @rses in their hands and just been happy to collect a wage without giving too much of a toss about the club...hardly my definition of honesty.
They are paid a (very decent) wage to do a job...and frankly too many of them haven't been doing their job for far too long irresepective of who the boss is or whether they like him or not...honest is not a word that I would use to describe most of our players over the last couple of years.

I have read the whole thread and apart from Joe saying he was there and that Chambers went to the toilet, I don't believe a word of it. A professional footballer goes to the toilet and blubs his heart out to a total stranger. Give it a rest.
