New poster here, have been reading for around 15 years but couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of you lot but I had an interesting chat when I was out on the mariner last night.
Got chatting to Luke chambers.
He seemed quite emotional talking about the decline of the club in the last few years. He said without the togetherness of a few players, we would have been in a much worse position than now.
What was interesting was his view on Paul cook, thinks he’s an absolute tool, apparently virtually everyone that was at the club back end of last season thinks the same.
He also advised that mark ashton had interviewed him twice in the past and said that he doesn’t have the credentials…
I understand he may just be bitter but I thought it was interesting.
He also said he is either signing a two year deal with Colchester or gillingham this week. He said he’s virtually settled on Colchester though. |  | | |  |

If your first paragraph is correct, Lee Evans is a liar isn’t he. He should be called out on it. Kieron Dyer’s view of Cook differs to the ‘everyone at the club hates him’ line. Again, Dyer needs challenging on this.
You describe the players as an ‘honest bunch’ basically let down by managers. Seriously? Players who couldn’t even keep themselves fit? Players who couldn’t last more than 45 minutes? Somebody said on here we did well at Portsmouth for 40 mins. Yay! Great! Shame about the next 50 eh?Players who ‘downed tools’ an honest bunch? This honest bunch, League One’s finest, were bullied by half the teams in the division.
They played well once all season. 3 wins I hear you cry. That’ll be the two scraped wins followed by one against 10 men who ran them ragged for a good chunk of the game followed by the Gillingham beating. They are professional players paid a lot of money. I don’t care if they hate Cook, Lambert, the club or the tea lady. Professional means at a very basic level you work to the best of your ability. Did they? They are the most unprofessional bunch of losers it’s ever been my misfortune to witness representing this club.

100%. The majority of these players failed in a relegation battle, coming below even a Bolton side who weren't paid for half the season and weren't sure if they would come to work and find the training ground boarded up ffs. They failed when they started superbly (twice), other teams feared them and their confidence was high. They failed as soon as we struggled, couldn't get shots on target at teams by the bottom of League 1 at home and we would go weeks without a win...in League 1. They got us past the first cup round we entered twice in 3 seasons, out of 8 tries.
How can you be defending this 'honest bunch' whilst stating you feel for them as the new manager 'lacked respect'?
Let me say that again: these 'honest bunch' came below a Bolton team not knowing if they would even be a club at the end of the season. |  |

That's not what Joe said at all.
He said he wasn't universally liked, not that he was universally disliked. There is a massive difference between the two phrases.
And FWIW, I'm pretty disappointed by this from Chambers, suggests to me that it is right to move him on. Lets just hope that we get the real Paul Cook next season though, rather than the one we've had for the last few months! |

I think we can all see what is going on here.
Luke was out with Itfcjoe, got a bit bored of the conversation, he wants to get away from all the football talk, decided to take a bit of break, and had to invent a bit of a story for why he was away, going to the “toilet” for so long.
He was actually WhatsApp-ing his parter, and waiting for the conversation to be turned solidly away from ITFC and onto the Masked Dancer.
Now Luke realised, the substantial conversation he claimed to have would be reported by someone, so had to keep the charade going by posting a story on social media. Just in case Joe was suspicious. Cause he knows Joe does quite a bit of ITFC related social media see.

Wasn't what I was saying at all.
Chambers mouthing off to a complete stranger about his relationship with Cook and where he is likely to sign his next contract does not come across as professional at all.
I agree that Cook has been disappointing in not being able to improve on what Lambert was doing. However, there is also a sense that perhaps major surgery was exactly what was needed as Lambert certainly didn't have the club where it should be. |  |

My opinion of Cook is based on a lot of factors, which obviously includes what I think and know about some players and how they have been treated.
I think he's a good enough manager to get us up, and is building a squad capable of doing so - but think he got a lot wrong in the back end of last season and sure he'd be the first to admit that. | |

I've no doubt the way Cook handled the situation wasn't ideal, did if show a lack of respect? Probably, but football is such a ruthless business, sentiment goes out the window regardless of how we all feel.
Luke was a fantastic servant to this club, he probably deserved more than 30 seconds to end his time here, I totally understand Joe feels more sympathy towards him than most given his friendship and rightly so.
But sometimes you have to take a step back and look at the bigger picture, if Cook is a bellend and players can't stand him then he won't be around for long, however, his record suggests otherwise and we all need to see how this pans out in the coming months. |  |

Yep, and your final paragraph is what I've said countless times - if he starts of well and we have success then all of this will never matter again and it will be totally vindicated......if it goes the other way it will be held up as him getting it wrong from the start and an inevitability
Cook doesn't have the leisure of being able to just let hindsight be his judgement - he is judged on what happens and has to do what the thinks is right, he has to make mistakes, he doesn't get a second go at things and he has to do them on his terms.
We all want him to be successful, and the signings he is making and the backing he is receiving will give him a great chance to do that - if he does that and the dust settles, and the players that have left go on to do fine elsewhere then we are all happy.
But as always, everything, and every decision made, is framed through how successful the first team are - and if they are successful then everything is seen as right, and if they aren't everything is seen as wrong. | |
