Really rate him but another central midfielder?

Yes. Squad overhaul.

Wouldn't you expect 2 or 3 to come in?

We've signed one, probably be another one after this as well given Dozzell seems to be off and I would expect someone will want Downes.

He’d play number 10 I’d imagine.

well if you believe what we are told, he is now only the second one we have

Innit. I think people need to get out of the 'another' mindset. Big difference between players contracted and what Cook sees as his squad for next season. The latter is still relatively light I would wager.

The exit door is wide open.

Another midfielder…….presumably departures are Imminent.

Our midfield apart from Downes aren’t combative strong players

As long as we don’t over-reach and miss out on a more likely target in the process.

You would certainly think they would want a decent fee. For a player that's proven at this level and in their prime, I don't think that something around the £1m mark sounds ridiculous money. Not sure how long he's got left on his contract but if he's going into the final year then perhaps they're not in such a position to command as much. If we can put the potential Dozzell money towards someone like Crooks, while holding some potential sell on benefits on AD then I would be happy enough in terms of targeting an immediate return to the Championship.

I wonder if they’d accept a part exchange - Crooks for Bishop plus maybe £500k?

Let's see if you think that when we reach our squad limit because we have 8 CMs and we have Holy and cornell for the keepers and toto and kenlock at the back with drinan up top for the first game

He's in the last year of his contract.

This seems to be a tactic, target players in the last year of their contracts where the club are happy to take a fee below their actual worth.

He could easily nick a goal or two.
Hopefully he won’t get caught out when making a pass.

If we're playing 4-2-3-1 we'll need 6 anyway. Shedding 2 is hardly a big deal.

I'm just wondering when the attackers are getting here, given that it was easily the weakest part of the team last year.

If you presume Crooks goes in at number 10, that's him and Burns replacing Judge and Bennetts, that's a pretty huge improvement.

But yes, a striker definitely needed too.

Like you say ,a massive improvement without doubt but yep , I'll feel a little more comfortable with the signing of a quality striker and a decent keeper

If there is such a thing as a consistent goalscorer because that's the one position really that a player will have a monumental spike in their career over a season ,maybe season and a half and generally live off it for another 2-3 seasons and perhaps not have it again (aka Jackson)

The big one for me though like I say is a decent keeper - get that sorted and I'll accept anything else along the way. A decent keep just offers an extra man in a lot of cases in terms of confidence for the defenders and the rest of the starting XI

Old school maybe... but a cracking pair of centre halves ,a decent defensive midfielder and a striker ahead of them being a nuisance and getting in amongst the goals .The rest just falls into place

Poll: Philogene Conundrum
