I swear I saw the other day Phil say the exact opposite in which he thought a deal would get done with us? I’ll try and find the comment and edit it in - possible things have changed in the 48 hours or so since

Not him angling for a move though, which you could understand from the angle of what you're saying, club just don't appear to be making too much effort to keep him, which surprises me.

Bit reminiscent of Rhodes's exit, isn't it? Club going on to bigger and better things so can let young players in that sort of position go. Agree, and am surprise they're not pulling out more stops to keep him.

I also thought I read only the other day that Phil had said he was likely to sign.

I guess things change with new information.

but I thought the wisdom of crowds on here the other week was that players who were told to go were just being given a clever reserve psychology test by Cook who wanted to see how much they wanted to stay...so he told him to go because he wants him to stay, but only if he wants to stay, if he doesnt want to stay then he can go, but he hasnt been told to go, he's been told to stay, so if he goes, thats his choice. follow ?

Until they leave, as Phil's latest news story says, each player has the opportunity to show they want to be at Town and why they should be part of what we are building.

That was my expectation from a while ago, but I was given a different impression when I asked around about the situation yesterday. Could still stay but not as likely as I previously thought.

Speculation on Town's Available Players Gets Under Way 13th May 2021 10:34
Speculation regarding the Town players made available by manager Paul Cook this summer has got under way with a report questioning whether Norwich City could revive their interest in midfielder Andre Dozzell. 103

I was told he was one that had been told he could go on the day they all met with Cook but from conversations I've had since then I think he is one who has been ear-marked to stay. Edwards was another, incidentally, but he's gone, of course. I think another is Drinan, perhaps surprisingly. KVY is another.

Thing is, at 18 you'd be hoping especially at League 1 level that he would be breaking into the first team, he looked absolutely out of his depth against Charlton, that's not a slight on him, but just imo shows how far away he is and I can't see him getting anywhere near it again soon.

If He joins a Utd etc it'll do him the world of good in their acadamies as they'll be playing better football than we do at Cat 2, probably a loan out to league 2 at the same time.

One of those imo that may be good in the far future, but not yet and we might not be the best club for him

With Drinan, the only thing I can think is that he see's a bit of Moore in him.

He's going to be a fair way off the first team here next season and much further away at a Premier League club, and he's not going to go to a Man U or anyone like that, it'll be a Brighton, Leeds, Southampton or Norwich. He could find himself in no-man's land for a while if he goes and nothing can be agreed with Town about his compensation.

So we are planning on keeping Nors and KVY and virtually noone else . Well, it's a clear strategy except they are our two most injury prone first teamers. We cant pin our promotion hopes on those two.

He must see something in him. When you go back to when he was first signed Mick was very positive about him, saw him as one who could go straight into the first team and the players were impressed, so perhaps he sees something he can work with.

Regarding Gibbs, in 2019 Colchester sold Todd Miller, who was 16 at the time, to Brighton for 'an undisclosed fee'. I don't know if it was true, but that fee was reputed to be higher than that which Colchester got for either of the two established players they sold at the same time, -- Frankie Kent (Peterborough) and Sammy Szmodics (Bristol City), and for that matter KVY a couple of months later. This time last year, Brighton also paid 'an undisclosed fee' for Zak Emmerson from Oldham, who was 15 at the time (but had played a couple of league games).

My point is only that any fee for Gibbs may be a bit more than chicken-feed, even if it's disappointing if Town decide to 'eat the seedcorn' as the Americans say.

He seems to have the right attitude and you may well be right about being viewed as a cheap squad option given the SCMP limitations.

Perhaps that's what Town are anticipating, that an interested club will be willing to pay decent enough compensation.

Was Cook in the Sky studio for the match against Wigan on the opening day of the season, that 45 minutes from Drinan was very impressive?

He works hard, is surprisingly quick but a definite lack of experience and nous and I'm not totally sure he'll ever score a lot of goals.

Yes Cook was. Think he did at least 2 of our games and that was definitely one.
