It’s been re-assuring in recent months to see that the Western countries are less and less supportive of Israel’s approach.
People seem to be taking the sensible approach of complaining about both Hamas and the Israeli leadership, and understanding that at its core we’re seeing apartheid oppression and a militarized occupation. I’m a complete pacifist but you can see where the justification for Hamas is.
Do nothing and the oppression continues and the occupation spreads. All while the world looks elsewhere. Fight back and the world pays attention for once.
Then people call for a ceasefire and there’s talk of peace plans (Trump’s peace plan was a land grab) while the oppression continues and the occupation spreads once again.
And repeat.
If anyone has any idea about how to stop this cycle while the US and UK government still enable Israel to do as it pleases then I’m all ears. This is our fault as much as anyone on either side of the Israel/Palestine divide ... maybe more so as we should be a lot better as onlookers but also as a country who knows how they resolved their own “impossible divide” in Northern Ireland. In the end it was about NOT picking sides and by withdrawing our military. | |

There was a peace deal 25+ years ago, the Oslo Accord. But the Israeli hardliners killed Rabin, took the country over and ignored the treaty.
