A forward with 4 goals in 34 games?!

Yes please!

Played predominately as a wide man. Played less a third of his games down the middle last year - and when he does play down the middle it's usually as a second striker anyway (no.10).

He scored against us for Paul Cook in the FA Cup.

Poll: Would love to know the opinions on here now of Lambert genuinely?

tbh its more the 3 assists in 34 games that caught my eye.

A wide forward/no. 10 should surely be getting invovled in more goals?

I guess there's a reason Barnsley are selling.

11 goals in 44 the season before, plus 8 in 31 the season before. That more to your liking?

interesting.

seems he's gone off the boil then, but maybe Cook can get him back on track.

Not bad, off the boil for 31 Champ league games

Given that no attacking midfielder who has just scored 10+ goals in a season in the Championship is moving to League One, one that did so the season before last is the next best thing, isn't it?

I'd expect a slightly better return from a winger/no.10 in a side doing well, thats all.

But as I said, may just be a confidence player that needs to drop down a division and start again.

Focus on the fact he played 34 games for a side who just finished in the championship play offs, an ever present and now possibly moving to League One.

Does playing 2/3 of their games automatically make him a top signing?

Why are they selling?

He may well prove to be a really decent signing, just playing devil's advocate here, that stats don't look good, which for a forward player, are kinda important.

Stats aren't everything though

How many passes did Chaplin play into someone who then assisted a goal...
How many runs did Chaplin make to take a defender away from a team mate enabling them to score a goal etc etc
If he whips in a cross but a team mate heads it across goal for another player, he set the play up without the stat to go with it etc..

He's got better stats in the Championship over the past two seasons than any of our previous wingers/10's had at L1 level. And he's 24 and not even hit his prime yet.

Barnsley fans on twitter are miffed as to why they'd sell him, that's what you want to be looking at. Hope we get this done!

I don't recall this logic being applied to Dozzell ;)

Scored 11 in 44 the previous season at championship level. Pretty decent return.

Might not have hit the same heights last season, but we’re a league below. And lots of minutes for a team that finished 5th in the Championship.

31 starts for a side that finished 5th in the Championship. This would be a ridiculous bit of business for us. Only 24 as well.

I do, alot of people mentioned the likes of Norwood and Judge not finishing some of the passes he put through, Judge was the worst towards end of season, had 2 on a plate in one of the games, can't remember which
Dozza though, not as attacking for me to compare to Chaplin, so can't really say I would be able to credit him of being able to drag a defender away, put a cross in etc in comparison to Chaplin.

Depends which way you want to dice it.

Another way of looking at it; he has 15 goals and 7 assists in the last two seasons, importantly in the league above, whilst predominately being a wide man.

You're better off looking at chances created. A chance created and then missed doesn't give you the assist, which makes your stats look less impressive.

If you create 50 chances for Harry Kane, chances are you'll end up with more assists then creating 50 chances for Leon Best.

And also on the fact that he looks a bit like Eden Hazard facially, in build and in style (well, sort of).
