With the amount of players we have signed this transfer window 20:01 - Aug 31 with 3376 viewsChrisd

I doubt very much that PC will be going anywhere anytime soon. It would be plain daft in fact to make 19 new signings and then the manager is out the door. There’s certainly no doubt that on paper that squad is very decent for L1. MA has done his bit, it’s now over to the manager, his coaching staff and the players to start delivering on the pitch, but there still will be the odd bump in the road between now and May.

We've failed to win, every single game. Against some pretty sh1te opposition and with some strong positions. Doesn't matter how good we think we are, he has found that not much incredibly elusive.

Either than changes or he goes, and pretty sharpish too. Especially as he's brought even more players who know what he wants and expects, it should really have happened prior to this.

He's got to send us on a tear pretty soon and I'm relishing that.

Agree. If we were mid-table at the Jan window I can’t see the owners sticking with him.

They’ve invested too much to stay in this division beyond this year.

I agree, but people talking as if it's a formality and the fact he's not done awfully here are baffling right now. He had the opportunity to at least get close to the playoffs if not make them and got it totally wrong already without taking any responsibility for it.

That's a significant mental shift we've not seen addressed at all yet. He can't hide from it much longer.

Quite. It's certainly nobody else's fault now if he can't succeed here.

But, OTOH, I think he'll be given a bit of time by the owners, after such a big reset. But only if we get signs of improvement (i.e. wins). Another couple of months down the lower end of the table and they may well start to get twitchy before the season is too far gone to stand much of a chance of making at least the playoffs.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Do you genuinely believe if we are a long way off the playoffs they’ll keep being ‘patient’

It’s a project, but it’s a short-term project this season imo

I think we have to be in play off contention; we have to have strong run of results and show massive progress.

BUT piss the league, automatic promotion, it’s going to take further weeks to bed in yet more signings.

I’m not sure.

Just throwing it out there.

I agree, but it's one thing to preach patience and ask the fans for it, it's another entirely to practice it if your new team go into October or November having failed to register a win in spite of so much investment.

I don't think it's likely that will happen of course and it's incredible we haven't seen a game out yet, but sports psychology says the longer it goes on the more likely it is to persist.

Just a footnote, this place is bipolar. Last minute equaliser by Wimbledon, the world is ending. Sign a couple more players, HMS piss the league is full steam ahead again. It doesn't work that way, we have to earn it.

Though Hurst and Lambert couldn't solve those issues and Cook couldn't last season.

That being said...this squad is now ridiculously good and should be able to begin to sort them.

As you imply - we really can’t compare what Hurst or Lambert could or couldn’t do. The players they had just don’t compare this the squad we’ve just assembled. These ARE good players, tried, tested and proven. If the team isn’t successful there is only one person to blame!

Piss the league was always nonsense.

Sitting 10pts off the playoffs in January is probably sackable though

Great post!

Imagine if we’d staved off the last minute equaliser, many would be lauding the Celina signing rather than querying it.

We have to beat Bolton and/or Lincoln in my view, just to give Cook some breathing space.

If I were him I’d stick with the same team… apart from the keeper… bring in Celina and Morsy slowly

Sackable if 4 individual player errors didn’t cost us at least 6 points

I’m worried

But I think our current position has a lot to do with those errors and the form of evans and hdalky

Rather than errors from Cook

Totally agree on this. There's a point at which a bad run becomes a bottomless pit. We aren't there yet and I still think even a pretty mediocre September will keep the wheels on. But doing August again? That would be curtains near enough.

In short, fail to win a match for 4-5 more matches and he will be gone.

Start getting results and he will be given time.

I can’t see him being sacked in 4-5 games even if we lost them, why on earth let him bring in 18 hugely expensive new faces, you have probably on paper the best manager in the league and squad of his choosing and you sack him after 9 league games….

Entirely hypothetical because it won't happen, but ... no manager in the entire EFL would be safe sat dead last with 3 points after 10 games, let alone if that manager had the biggest budget in their league.

No. The idea that several players will sacrifice 2 or more years of their career because they love Cook is fanciful.

Time to do it now.

Morsy has just signed a 3-year deal so how do you figure that? A no promotion release clause maybe but you’re guessing.

Wasn’t it the Wycombe away game we postponed under Lambert when the wheels started to come off? An up turn in form from here in (shouldn’t be hard) would be one of football’s little quirks.

That's the worry: ''coaching staff''. I'm having serious misgivings about the coaching team Cook has assembled. I think an AM and 2x experienced first-team coaches would've been integral signings this summer but they haven't happened. Instead we are relying on an ex-baker and kitman, a guy with no coaching badges and a guy who has never coached first-team players before. Worrying!

And rightly so. How can we start a project with a new team and a whole new mentality and then after a couple of months sack the manager. We’d have to start all over again.

I’d rather we just let the proven manager improve a bunch of highly talented individuals and gel then into a wining team. Just as Cook so often does everywhere he goes.

If he doesn't get results he'll go, this squad has been built for instant promotion by the owners - there will be no excuses.

Cook will be relishing the challenge, but he'll be fully aware of what is expected of him - even if some fans seem to be happy with having a good squad and lower expectations

Of course he will that’s the nature of the beast as a football manager, but it won’t be in the next 2 or 3 games which some are suggesting with thinly veiled comments on here. He needs to be given a sustained period of time with this new squad to see if this works, that’s nothing to do with low expectations - that’s just a logical approach with so many new players.

If we lose the next 5 league matches (I am not talking about Mickey Mouse cups they are irrelevant), we will be on 3 points from 10 matches and will be firmly in a relegation battle. It is ridiculous to suggest that Cook would remain in post under those circumstances. It would be a far, far worse start than Keane, Jewell or Hurst all at a level above. Winning the following 3 on the trot would then leave us on fewer points than matches played and firmly at the foot of the table.

Even if we do not win 2 of the next 5 league games, we would have fewer than 10 points from our first 10 matches and that would make a very big ask for the next 36 matches. If we need around 87 points to go up, that is 78+ needed from 36 at 2.17 per match. Or in other words leaves us needing W25 D3 L8 or W24 D6 L6 or something similar off the back of 1 win in 10. We need to start winning games in the next set of 5. Hopefully we will. Fail to do so and Cook will not be around a lot longer.
