When was the last time you were genuinely excited about a new signing? 11:48 - Sep 1 with 3217 views | MattinLondon | No doubt this has been discussed before, but in light of all of the new signings the club has made this season, when was the last time you were excited about a new signing? Or thought to yourself ‘How did we manage to sign him? Doesn’t have to be this season. When we signed Matteo Sereni I thought we were going places as, at the time, Sven-Göran Eriksson described him as one of the best keepers in Europe. Pablo - one of the best prospects in Spain and again, I thought that we were really going up in the world. David McGoldrick - always thought he was a gifted player and thought that it was a superb signing. Anyway, over to you. [Post edited 1 Sep 2021 16:34]

My Hudds supporting mate was absolutely mystified about the sale at the time as they were under no pressure to sell.

When was the last time you were generally excited about a new signing? on 12:24 - Sep 1 by SWGF | I had a dream about Paul Goddard last night....I shook his hand and he had TINY, TINY hands. Child's hands. That's all I remember from the encounter. |
I had a dream s few years back when Keane was in charge that he was my boss. I can honestly say he is an awful c-unit of a man and very hard to please from an employee perspective

When was the last time you were generally excited about a new signing? on 13:50 - Sep 1 by HighgateBlue | I know that Gwion flattered to deceive, but Carlos played for us almost 200 times and was a good servant to the club. I wouldn't say it was an especially low bar. |
Lee Martin made 100 for us...

When was the last time you were generally excited about a new signing? on 13:39 - Sep 1 by Garv | Campo? Having only been aware of and really taken notice of signings from around 2006/07 onwards, there isn't many. - Bullard, especially seeing him start running games from the off. - Chopra was exciting and a bought for a decent price at the time, so he probably qualifies. - Norwood (in the context of being in League One and desperately needing a striker). I'm being generous with all of those, though. That the fanbase is in such overwhelming agreement that our business is almost too good to be true, it illustrates how bad the last 10+ years has been. I genuinely think I've forgotten what good footballers look like. |
Campo 'Following the 2002—03 campaign he was expected to return to the Spanish capital, but unexpectedly signed a three-year permanent deal with the English club, deciding he preferred living in Bolton.'

No, at that point it was desperation.

When was the last time you were genuinely excited about a new signing? on 16:39 - Sep 1 with 869 views | hatch | David Norris - under ME he was the first signing when I thought we'd go straight up. Paul Taylor - was a shame not to get Boyd but that transfer saga ticked on and I thought he was going to set the team alight. Hindsight is horrible.

When was the last time you were genuinely excited about a new signing? on 21:58 - Sep 1 with 796 views | monkeymagic | For genuinely excited, it’s probably all the way back to Marcus Stewart. His debut away at Barnsley was incredible and the brace at Bolton in the first leg still gives me goosebumps, especially the equaliser. While not at the same level, I was convinced Chopra and Bullard were going to take us up when they arrived. Little did I realise how that would turn out. It was a similar story with Paul Taylor, who looked unplayable in a Peterborough shirt. Demonstrating my lack of judgement further, I thought DJ Campbell was going to be an absolute waster and he arguably kick started the revival under McCarthy.

I remember when Big Al signed. It was a complete departure in terms of status and fee, and what a steal it turned out to be. Also the re-signing of Ray Crawford, who duly got us promoted again.

When was the last time you were genuinely excited about a new signing? on 00:33 - Sep 2 with 734 views | Ryorry | Not because I expected stunning stuff from him, nor did he go on to become one of my favourites, but I remember our excitement in the away end at The Riverside in April 2001, when Alun Armstrong, in his first game for us after signing from Boro, scored both goals in our 2-1 win there. The only reason I remember is that we were singing "thank you very much for Alun Armstrong", to the tune of "thank you very much for the Aintree Iron" at their fans! Good day out was that one.

When was the last time you were generally excited about a new signing? on 12:00 - Sep 1 by SE1blue | Marcus Stewart. He felt like the final piece we needed to finally get promoted. In the banter years that have followed…only Gio. |
Yep, Stewart for me too. He was one of those signings where you couldn’t see a downside. A natural goal scorer, not made of glass and the right age. With Johnson, Scowcroft, Naylor he really did feel like the last piece in the jigsaw. At first he was a bit in and out and I wondered if he was going to do much here. Then came that play off game at Bolton and the rest, as they say, is history. Since Stewart, possibly Hreidarsson who I thought might make the difference between survival and relegation in 2000/01. We were a bit better than that and who can forget his bar dive into the crowd? I can’t given I was only about 10 yards away.
