Thoughts please 18:10 - Sep 11 with 5567 views | backwaywhen | Who agrees with Mick Mills ….. That if not all then the majority of today’s team should be back out on the pitch together, on Tuesday night , against West Ham for vital jell / familiarity time as well as in some cases fitness.says that training ground scenarios are good enough at this moment in time . They need game time together as often as possible, he really had strong views on this .

Thoughts please on 20:00 - Sep 11 with 1254 views | ClareBlue | completely agree for a good few years we have thought the cup games are of no importance and we should concentrate on the league only. Well they actually are important for a number of reasons: a) we are a professional football club and should field our strongest team possible for every game b) winning becomes a habit and confidence grows and players develop partnerships. Chopping and changing doesn't work c) These cups are actually the only chance of winning something. We are a 3rd tier club so we compete for 3rd tier trophies and thinking they are beneath us is condescending and insulting to the fans who support the club. d) resting payers is a load of rubbish as they are well up to playing these games - it's not a premiership game followed by a 18 hour trip to Kieve to get kicked off the part, trip back on 2am flight and playing 12pm Saturday against Man City is it? The other year it was a mid week away game at Colchester that we lost, or an onerous trip to Exeter that was beyond us. e) how many players have actually been injured in these cup games and out for any length of time as against those injured in training or, in our case, getting on and off the bus. Potential injuries are part of playing professional football. The cups are professional football. and the real clincher - has the strategy of fecking the cup games ever, ever, ever benefitted our club in any why what so ever?

Indeed. It's desperate to think even a resounding win in the pizza cup will bring any positives. Still too early to make a call imo, but Cook should at least stfu about gelling and injuries and call a spade a spade. Who gives a sh1t if it's his toughest time? It's not about you Cookers ffs. Thoughts please on 18:12 - Sep 11 by J2BLUE | Posted a while ago that we should play the youth team and spend more time training but a former player saying that is very interesting. I wouldn't be opposed but this is the banter era so someone is getting a season ending injury... |
The result Tuesday means nothing. The big issue is that training does not seem to be fulfilling its purpose. The bigger issue is that with different players and different managers, training does not seem to have fulfilled its purpose since Mick McCarthy left. We need a management and coaching team that will make training fulfil its purpose. Our current one appears to have shown it cannot do that.

He has to win a league game, any wins outside this will be not given the time of day when push comes to shove

Not the point made by the OP, but definitely is a game which has to be won, a loss to West Ham's U21s on top of today doesn't bear thinking about! A draw wouldn't be much better. Think PC was already going to play a strong team prior to today, although probably not what he considers a first XI.

A loss with Morsey in the side would't look good after his comments today, Wonder if he might regret saying that

Do you not think Joe that those on the pitch today need a good run out together again to help iron out today’s misgivings …. Cus I do , get them together a gather in a match scenario ASAP not wait till Lincoln and hope the trading ground is enough !!!!

Fair point but even Mick Mills felt very strongly that it was the right thing to , all the training ground stuff will never replicate a match scenario, he said most training ground work is to sharpen up ready for next game , but we need to get out there on Tuesday and put on a performance for all concerned including the fans !

Mick Mills has forgotten more about football than I’ll ever know, so I wouldn’t question him as generally thinks he speaks a lot more sense than is given credit for. I’m just not sure how much a game against West Ham kids actually gives us, but we shouldn’t even be having this convo

Thoughts please on 21:36 - Sep 11 with 1041 views | Coastalblue | I'm conflicted over this, on the one hand I agree that this lot need as many minutes on the pitch together as they can get in real match situations, we desperately need some partnerships on the field. On the other hand, if they get turned over badly by the Spam's kids, and that could happen the way they're currently looking then that could be catastrophic for morale.

Thoughts please on 21:40 - Sep 11 with 1033 views | You_Bloo_Right | Risk injuries? Mickey Mouse trophy? Frankly I don't care. If we are going to persist with 4-2-3-1 I'd like a "2" that do something other than signpost the way to our goal for the opposition. Oh and maybe a full back who, if he can't stop the winger getting into the penalty area, at least has the nous not to dive in from a yard or two away.

You are right about having the conversation , still think we should field majority on Tuesday , don’t know about you but I don’t think Paul is very clever without Liam Richardson by his side ! Time will tell COYBs

Despite his excellent football knowledge and highly successful career, he was less than spectacular as a manager. I am not certain he is always right on managerial advice but is spot on on analysis of tactics and game situations. Maybe he is what Cook is lacking as an assistant!

I think it's more building relationships - goalkeeper and backline in particular. In fairness, I'm not sure whether our front line needs work and we probably need to try and different combination out because Harper and Evans doesn't work and we simply cannot play against Lincoln and Wednesday with them in the middle.
