Seems incredible that as we sit in the bottom 4 of League 1.... 09:50 - Sep 27 with 6262 views | itfcjoe | .....as we approach the end of the second month of the season, there seems to be little pressure applied to the club at the moment. For me tomorrow is an absolute must-win game, if we go into October with just one win under our belt and in the relegation zone then we are basically out of automatic contention, and the play offs will be a massive stretch. On the flip side, if we win, which we undoubtedly should do, then it's 7 points out of 9 and things feel a bit more positive - we need to start stringing proper runs of wins together though or we are going nowhere

The play offs being a massive stretch isn't accurate. We could be anything from what, 7 to 13 points off the play offs in two games time with no-wins.....that's nowhere near insurmountable in October. Not uncommon to see a team make up that gap and grab a play off spot from Jan/Feb time.

Seems incredible that as we sit in the bottom 4 of League 1.... on 16:26 - Sep 27 by chrismakin | A fair few where they are playing each other so not all can get max points etc And no it still probably won't look that much different table wise but the points and the gap could look alot healthier than it currently does. |
Playing each other means either one team gets 3 points or both get 1. The suggestion that two wins suddenly puts us within a point of the play-offs is laughable. It only happens if no one else plays.

There's a big bunch in the middle of the league that we can't afford to let get away. We're 4 points off Lincoln in 17th but then they're only 3 points from 6th. I think the next game could be big in terms of whether there's pressure on the manager. It looks like we've started to turn a corner after the Bolton game and if we win it starts to build some positive momentum. Lose and it feels like we're back to square 1 a bit.

Seems incredible that as we sit in the bottom 4 of League 1.... on 12:21 - Sep 27 by HighgateBlue | He may be referring to those who, when challenged to consider what unjustified optimism might look like, refer only to attacking quality rather than realising that our defence is much much worse than last season. All this "starting to click", and "promising signs" stuff is only ever trotted out in relation to the idea of trying to score goals, and seldom in respect of trying to keep them out. |
...although we have restricted Lincoln and Sheffield Wednesday to fk all in the last two games so its kind of justified, right?

2 wins puts us in a much better position which is what you demand. Regardless of specifics it'll look better than it does now.

I'm confident tonight and we have a decent run of fixtures to follow in October off the back of 7 points from a possible 9. This squad should be capable of stringing 8/9/10 games together unbeaten. Hopefully Morsy also has the impact we hope.
Seems incredible that as we sit in the bottom 4 of League 1.... on 08:22 - Sep 28 with 560 views | Burns7 | It took 13 years and a relegation to the third division to register even a modest moan from our support about Marcus Evans, so why is it surprising that one of the most loyal, optimistic and supportive fanbases is being patient with a new set of owners, CEO and manager? Other clubs fans would be hounding them out at this stage. Maybe it's to our detriment that we are so willing to accept failure in the short term on the idea the long term will work out, even though it never has, not once, since the early 1980's. Apart from a flash in the pan under Burley, we've played just 5 top flight seasons in 35 years. It's not good enough is it? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Although, alternatively, we lose yet another home game, this time against the bottom of the league side, and after our latest "super signing" is playing for us. We then enter October firmly in the relegation zone, and with an even bigger mountain to climb to make the play-offs. If we lose tonight - and goes without saying, I hope we don't - I wonder what the Cook faithful need for him to deserve sacking in their eyes. How much worse would things have to get ?

Seems incredible that as we sit in the bottom 4 of League 1.... on 10:04 - Sep 27 by ITFCBlues | What would sacking a manager at this stage achieve though? We're showing signs of improvement after a rough start. Bringing in a new manager means a complete fresh start again. |
We need a bit more than ‘signs of improvement’ though, don’t we? You could turn this around and ask what retaining him would achieve? You could equally argue that a fresh start is exactly what we need. Since he’s been here Cook has made mistake after mistake. By any measure he has been poor. It’s a results business and in six months what exactly has he achieved? It doesn’t matter what he did at AN Other FC. It’s what he’s done here here so far and whether he’s likely to get a grip of things. Quite frankly, pinning your hopes on one new player in Morsey, having brought in all the others, seems a bit desperate to me and I’m having doubts - fingers crossed incorrect ones. Hopefully, it won’t come to that and we will win well tonight, but if we continue to scrape along as we are now, he surely has to be replaced end of October at the latest.

Seems incredible that as we sit in the bottom 4 of League 1.... on 10:20 - Sep 27 by LankHenners | Thought Mick Mills was a bit too grumpy about the performance after the game Saturday but a couple of things he was spot on about - a) if we don't hit a serious winning streak starting tomorrow then we can forget about automatics, and b) for all people can point to a new squad, lots of change, needing time etc., there is a helluva lot of mediocrity in this division that has made a better job of the season so far than we have. Defensively we handled Wednesday better than we have other teams (Bolton most glaringly) which I haven't quite worked out whether that was simply down to personnel (Donacien naturally more defensive minded, and a better defender than, KVY; Burgess/Edmundson a bit more settled; El-Miz/Carroll more cautious off the ball than Evans/Harper) or a deliberate coaching strategy but either way hopefully that calms us down a little bit and we can remain fairly solid and let the attacking talent do what it can do well. I don't buy Cook's words that he's the magic key that will solve everything but I'm sure Morsy will help us out a lot off the ball plus adding Edwards back in boosts our attacking quality. Not convinced Cook himself truly knows his best combinations/partnerships yet but he needs to work it out PDQ or the season will really start to drift and even the section of the fanbase which appears to have watched this season blindfolded will get restless. A nice juicy 3-0 tomorrow will make everyone feel a lot better and even if that's optimistic we really should be putting a team struggling as much as Doncaster away comfortably. |
I honestly think we are about to go on bit of a run. 4 from 6 in a couple of our more difficult games whilst looking a lot more solid defensively, win tonight & it could be* lift off. *Needs to be

Seems incredible that as we sit in the bottom 4 of League 1.... on 10:31 - Sep 27 by unstableblue | It was interesting going on the Wednesday message boards… they are basically berating their manager for stating they played well and were in control bar the error. Whereas the fans call out how few chances they made and that we had enough really good ones to win the game The improved defensive shape after Bolton is a key point…. That was a disaster, but some Cook system tweaks, the replacement of the hapless KVY with Donacien and the settling CB partnership seem to have resolved. Which is a positive to take Hopefully Morsy can strengthen further also get the ball from the centre backs and drive our passing forward 3-0 would be nice….. 3 points the only focus.. would love a clean sheet |
Its always interesting to listen to the other teams fans and commentators on the match. The SW commentators were really impressed with Ipswich first half. Said we deserved to be winning, we were playing well and working as a team. They were less impressed second half by Ipswich and pointed out our apparent lack of urgency and inability to pass forward but still said we looked a decent team. Ipswich controlled the game for the first twenty five minutes and should have been two up. If we had been it would have been a different game.

I think your suggestion that no one dissented about ME until last season is probably their main complaint.
