So Biden is having a "routine colonoscopy". All sounds like a pain in the bum to me.
It seems like anaesthesia for this sort of procedure is a uniquely American thing. Unless anyone can posit an actual reason for this, I suppose you can charge someone more for a camera up the bum if you need to throw in some general anaesthetic, and an anaesthesiologist?

It's an option over here, but we generally try and get away with it with sedation and decent painkillers.

It is definitely offered over here. Even with sedation the advice is 24 hours without driving, making important decisions or signing documents.
My Mum never properly recovered from that procedure after she had it done last year and they touched an artery. I am not looking forward to my next time.
