Well unfortunately it was and I think when you've had time to reflect and aren't as angry you'll agree you shouldn't have posted it. It's certainly unfortunate timing for your friends but it's the right thing to do to require more robust testing until we know more about Omicron. LFT isn't as accurate as PCR and doesn't allow genetic testing to track the spread of the variant. It would be good if the cost of the LFT could be deducted from the PCR but I doubt any companies will be organised enough to do that. SB [Post edited 27 Nov 2021 18:56]

I've had to reschedule a trip to San Francisco already, and looks quite possible I will again - or even have to cancel, at a loss of about £600. We're dealing with the unknown, so the goalposts were always going to move.

You could run for MP, texters! There's a chap in Ipswich who's not doing very well as it happens.... But I'll leave it there.

You have to pre-purchase a test in order to get a code to put on your Passenger Locator Form. No code, no Form...no travel.

new rules on 18:53 - Nov 27 by jeera | I have to admit I didn't even know the laterals had to be purchased. The last batch I had came through the post for free. Yes I can see how it's irritating to need to pay out twice but even more so if it's at an inflated price to line some private firm's pockets. There should be a system in place where we have to cover the costs of the kits and any admin involved but it should not be for profit, I agree with that take. It doesn't exactly encourage people to do the right thing. |
“It doesn't exactly encourage people to do the right thing.” If you are flying into the UK you need the booking code for the LF test to fully populate the Passenger Locator Form before flying. You can’t avoid buying the test if you are flying. I bought a LF test last week for £20 for a business trip this coming week. Looks like I’m going to have to upgrade this unless the changes take place after Thursday. [Post edited 27 Nov 2021 19:14]

There may be a grace period for travel already booked, I guess we'll know more on Monday because god forbid the government prioritises this beyond a couple of teasers

I have no idea right now how I will make the day 2 PCR test work. Suspect I will need to cancel one or both trips. Ho hum , it is what it is.

The practice of changing just one digit from a legitimate code has sadly become common practice.

new rules on 19:29 - Nov 27 with 1147 views | north_stand77 | I really hope people take this seriously. There should be 'no way round it' From a personal point of view, I have just been diagnosed with a very serious cancer for the second time in my life. Unfortunately it took so long to diagnose so I am way behind treatment. Part of the reason was because nhs were concentrating on covid, which was prioritised (properly so too, but not particularly helpful to me and thousands of others.) If people take the new variant seriously, hopefully less people will be hospitalised and we all stand a better chance. If you have any doubts about jabs/maks etc, please bear this in mind as we all need to look after each ultimately

new rules on 18:51 - Nov 27 by footers | If people had taken the least bit of personal responsibility and worn masks etc, and the government weren't such useless tossers, then we might not be in this pickle. But they didn't, and they are, and people will vote for them again. So there ya go. Sorry to hear you need to fork out, but many in the same boat thanks to these idiots in charge. But I know you don't talk politics. I'll leave it there. [Post edited 27 Nov 2021 18:53]

I’m not sure what the “current pickle” by which I assume you are talking precautions against a variant that is coming from another country, has to do with people not wearing masks and taking responsibility. Not that I am disagreeing with you on people not taking responsibility but why do you have to make EVERY post political?

Because politics is impacting this heavily. Not often are some many people impacted at once in such a short time because of the moves made by the government. This is one of those times. As for a variant coming from other countries, well, the longer people slack on personal care and question vaccines, the more chance of transmission, the more chance of transmission - the more chance of mutation. The more chance of mutation - the more chance of vaccine resistance. The government gave too much choice in the hands of people too quickly, and not just our own government doing it either. But no need to turn a perfectly sensible post and debate about the new rules into “our useless government blah blah” For once it would be good to see a post that doesn’t take this turn
