According to that we spent £1.3m on Harper and Chaplin alone. We also spent decent fees on several others.

'Massive' summer of investment on 12:11 - Dec 2 by MattinLondon | Thinking very quickly about this so may well be wrong - our loan signings are predominantly from clubs higher up in the food chain - so logically they’ll all be on far better money than the average L1 player. Also our permanent transfers are also predominantly from ‘bigger’ clubs in terms of league positions. Even our ‘free’ signings wouldn’t have been cheap in terms of wages spent as they all had decent reputations. It’s probably not Cooks fault that we are spending more on wages as I doubt if he negotiates contracts/ transfer fees. But it all points towards the fact that we are underperforming. Cook out. I would imagine the wage bill is higher than last year, albeit some good earners would also have left in the summer. I think the wages on loans may be fairly similar to last year though. We did have loans from Arsenal, Tottenham, Wolves, Preston, Barnsley & Munchengladbach - would imagine they will be a similar layout to this year? I would be interested to know what the outlay in fees is compared to what we received - may not be too much net spend.

'Massive' summer of investment on 12:53 - Dec 2 by ElderGrizzly | Pigott cost £1m didn't he? Burgess was £750k according to Andy Holt Then you've got Harper, Edwards, Fraser, Hldaky all costing fees? £1.3m can't be accurate [Post edited 2 Dec 2021 12:53]

Pigott was out of contract

I didn’t say that ffs!! I said if I was in charge of allocating those funds I wouldn’t be impressed with the return for my money I have had so far!!

Pension funds don't expect to make a return in six months. Five years minimum

'Massive' summer of investment on 12:35 - Dec 2 by ColchesterBlue1985 | No but I am placing myself in the shoes of the people responsible for allocating those funds accordingly. I wouldn’t be impressed at all, in fact the fact we have clearly regressed as things stand (against where we were at the same point last season) is astonishing and should have almost been impossible to “achieve” |
Pension funds often invest in other pension funds. You might find you're investing in ITFC , unwittingly lol.

'Massive' summer of investment on 12:06 - Dec 2 by clive_baker | I would be very interested in seeing the numbers, but of course we never will. As you say, we didn't just sell a couple for decent fees but we also moved on a heck of a lot of high earners. I don't doubt at all that our wage bill is higher now though, Chaplin, Morsy, Celina etc will be on a decent whack. |
Burgess, Chaplin, Edmundson and Fraser were all in the £700k-800k range, Hladky was £300k, Morsy was £100k-ish, Burns £150k, Harper £250k It was about £3m out and £3m in [Post edited 2 Dec 2021 14:49]

How in God's name was Morsy only £100k-ish?! Football really does work in funny ways.

If that's right then by and large they're decent value. At the ages they're at Chaplin and Edmundson certainly seem like value, and Burns is a snip at that price. Harper also, given his age that seems more than reasonable. Burgess and Fraser TBC I would say, I can see why they commanded a fee like that, especially Fraser given the season he had, but they're yet to get going for us. Hladky looks pony, but he came with a good reputation and people I know that know L2 very well rave about him. Good mate of mine plays for Morecambe and said he was hands down the best keeper in the division last season and was a great buy. Seems odd having watched him.

Yep, was definitely a buyers market this summer which we were able to take advantage. Hladky the strangest one ever, seen as the best keeper outside the Championship, and an absolute coup but has been dire and looks worse each time you see him. SOmetimes moves just don't work out for whatever reason and he is one of them. The wages we are paying are very big, as you'd expect. Someone like Edmundson will be on far more than double what Chambers was on - but that's no surprise when you see what sort of clubs we were beating to players - bottom 8 Championship clubs couldn't touch what we were offering.

I'd go as far as to say Hladky is the worst keeper I've seen in an Ipswich shirt and undoubtedly the worst relative to the hype before he came in!

Which is pretty much what Transfermarkt has - £2.89m in, £2.57m out. It'll be interesting to see the accounts for the change in wages.

'Massive' summer of investment on 11:58 - Dec 2 by MattinLondon | I’m guessing a lot higher than most other teams in L1. |
Your guessing is correct. Our wages this year are bonkers. Albeit letting Huws go in particular was a help for that. Though interestingly there’s a player we played against in the recent weeks on higher than any of our players. I’d give you 5 guesses and you still wouldn’t believe it.

'Massive' summer of investment on 12:19 - Dec 2 by ColchesterBlue1985 | Your clueless Hladky alone was close to seven figures as was Burns. Harper was around 500k Burgess 750k Chaplin 500-750k Edmundson 750k All that’s without the huge (by comparison to the rest of the league) wages we are paying across the board. We probably have the highest paid manager too I would imagine. |
"You're clueless" The irony here is HUGE.

'Massive' summer of investment on 17:28 - Dec 2 with 854 views | Sawtrich | If people want to stick up for Cook and say, 'give him time', then that's fine, I respect the view and maybe , in time, it'll be proved right, I certainly hope so. But don't try to pretend he has hasn't been given a massive budget. We got a load of players that were either at Championship clubs or could've gone to one. We must be paying Championship wages or they wouldn't be here.
