Genuinely, not on a wind up but expectations now for the rest of the season? 11:51 - Dec 11 with 2274 viewsChrisd

Lots of panic that top 2 was the priority a few weeks back, but that simply isn't happening. Top 6 looks like that is slowly slipping away with the form of those sides currently occupying those positions. What are everyone's expectations now as we head into the busy Christmas period and manager-less, is 6th still possible if we are able to get our ship in order?

It's a big ask, certainly.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

No. It’s over. Again.

I don't see why anyone would give up on sixth. It will be difficult but if we make it then we would be rolling by the time the play offs start. 2-3 key signings in January and perhaps 3-4 out and we could really get going.

With this squad, if we get a roll we really should beat anyone over two legs.

Truly impaired.

A good, ambitious managerial appointment - which is what I expect - and a push for the final play-off spot.

With Harris in charge and giving him the benefit of the doubt, I expect 18th at best.

Yes, a play-off place is still possible, IF we can get our ship in order reasonably quickly, the new manager finds a way to make things work and we use the January transfer window judiciously rather than extravagantly. It'll be a tough ask, but not by any means impossible.

Otherwise things will rumble on to a highly unsatisfactory mid-table finish. I'm sure we have the strength to beat enough of the bottom-end teams to comfortably avoid relegation. 51 points has been enough in every recent season, so we'd need another 24 from just over half a season.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

1. Avoiding relegation.

2. Starting to build a proper team in a settled manager/coaching structure that fits with the rest of the club. Regardless if the manager is Neil Harris or Anita Harris.

Stability and sanity restored to our club. It’s impressive even for us to wipe away all the excitement and hope of the new regime in just a few months but here we are, floundering in midtable and rudderless.

Sneak a win today and we’ll all be dreaming of the playoffs. COYB

9 points off play offs with a side very low on confidence. Expectation is we will finish where we are now. Maybe slightly higher with a good managerial appointment.

In all honesty I feel beaten down by recent week’s events. My expectations are very low as a result. At this point I would settle for some end of season excitement. Whether that be challenging for the final playoff spot or even just looking like we’re building some momentum to take into next season.

Your feelings and mine are irrelevant. These players have chucked it in. They thought they’d cracked it after Pompey and Wycombe and they have disintegrated since.

How else do you account for what’s happened? It’s right in front of us.

I dont think top 2 was the priority a few weeks back, as that boat had sailed along time ago now.

I dont think the expectations have changed from what Cook was expected to deliver, which is challenge for the playoffs, be in them preferably, or be there abouts, get some wins, get a run of wins going., and the league will look alot different

We need roughly 50 points from the remaining games at this stage, which is basically a 2pt average now.

The fact that, barring a couple of outliers*, it hasn't been working all that well for most of the season. Nearly giving away our lead over bottom-placed Crewe and recent cup frustration have more in common with the majority of games than the false dawn at Wycombe.

These are experienced footballers, they should not be blind to that situation.

* Even Portsmouth was less of one than it might appear. They had been on a dreadful run when we went down there.

Poor Paul Cook. Inherited one set of wasters who couldn't be arsed and went out and bought another 19.

1. Get more balance in the team (midfield/attack but also sort out the left flank with a solid signing or two).
2. Make the team more consistent.
3. Make the squad more confident.
4. See where that takes us.

Basically get better and stronger as a football club. Arbitrary and fairly random expectations on points and positions have been a hindrance rather than a help.

Just some sign of progression and improvement and getting a settled winning team that will give optimism for next season.

This season is done....the playoffs aren't happening. We've been having this playoff discussion for weeks and we get further behind each time. Form wise we'd have to turn into a league winning team for the rest of the season to get enough points to finish top 6.

My (probably unrealistic) hope is that we find that form at some point to give hope for next season but it's not going to happen overnight if at all.

Not looking over our shoulder to much, were an over egotistical team with no fight, nothings changed in the last 4 years despite technically better players, or are they,

Which players have no fight?

They look to me like a side lacking in confidence and which then becomes a bit hesitant and less likely to attack or defend with purpose and single-minded commitment.

That’s often misinterpreted as a lack of fight, desire, passion, character etc. but I think those accusations are wrong 99% of the time.
