So today is Sue Gray day then... 11:15 - Jan 31 with 4819 viewsElderGrizzly

With Johnson making a statement that he accepts the redacted report, which of course miss the most serious issues that directly affect him.

He's going to get away with it. Met won't do anything and he will claim it's over. The full report will probably never be seen.

Sky News interviewing the kind of people who just make you give up hope.

Ha. You were watching the Wetherspoons on a Monday afternoon interview too? :)

This is the key question for Kier Starmer to get him on of course:

I'm not sure any of it has been redacted. The page marked "this page has been left intentionally blank" is, I would suspect, a legitimately blank page.

It's the same as you tend to find in exam papers so that there can be no worry that contents have been left out.

This. It's a format used across Civil Service reports.

Well clearly lots of it has been redacted since it contains only 4 of the 16 parties she investigated.

Whether they are completely excluded or the pages made blank doesn't really matter. The end result is the same.

So Boris as head of Govt is responsible for the failures of leadership or was let down by his senior staff.

Take yer pick.

As an aside, 12 of the 16 parties are with the Met - so plenty to run yet imho.

Perhaps the Met will suggest a Royal commission, so we should know by about 2050.

Obviously, I know nothing, but shouldn;t this redacted report still be enough to do him in? Serious failures, multiple parties and lies...? There's no excuse for those MPs in my book: either they get rid of him or they're condoning it.

Yep - from 'Politics live', currently streaming on twitter -

"- Gray reports "a number of these gatherings should not have been allowed to take place or to develop in the way that they did. There is significant learning to be drawn from these events which must be addressed immediately across Government".

- Prime Minister Boris Johnson is making a statement to the Commons currently, which will be followed by a 1922 meeting with Conservative MPs at 6:30 pm on Monday, which will be chaired by Sir Graham Brady ((in fact is being followed by Starmer speaking now)).

- On Friday, the Metropolitan Police asked Gray to make "minimal reference" to the events that are being investigated by the force, but Gray added: "This does not need to wait for the police investigations to be concluded."

Mr Johnson said he will help fix things by creating an office of the prime minister with a permanent secretary to lead Number 10.

TRANSLATION

There are too many staff in number 10 in the cabinet office, which vastly increases the chance of someone leaking things so we get found out.

Therefore I'll slim the team around me down massively to a much smaller one to stop us getting found out in the future.

Watching the proceedings is not good for the blood pressure. Blackford gets pulled up by the speaker for saying BJ "willfully" mislead the House and has to correct to "inadvertently". Nothing inadvertent about it - he deliberately lies repeatedly about these gatherings and other stuff.

If the speaker is prepared to let Johnson lie with impunity, there's no hope.

Blackford is a fool, whose grandstanding completely took the momentum away from the pressure that was building on Johnson.

Contrast Blackford with the forensic filleting by Starmer and the cool and calm way T May reduced Johnson to a quivering wreck.

Speaker eventually threw Blackford (who quite rightly said he was just doing his job & standing up for his constituents) out when he refused several times to withdraw his comment.

Knew it was going to be bad when Bercow left, but not this bad ... might as well have Carrie as Speaker.

At least another Tory stood up & openly withdrew his support for Johnson (don't know his name, 60-something with grey hair & glasses).
