Out of interest, who does it make him less effective to?
One could argue that when you have a blustering leader living by soundbites that soundbites are the best way to engage and persuade his support base.
Not everyone is going to watch the debate.
Now a debate could be had about whether it was the right time but I understand why he might have felt it was. Generally I'm not a fan of him though.

Irrespective of any potential issues with his previous conduct, I'm with Blackford on this one.
The parliamentary rule that an MP cannot be accused of lying, despite the debate being upon the evidence of said MP's lies, makes an absolute mockery of the democratic system.
If you've watched the footage of that particular part of the debate, you can see/hear from Hoyle's demeanor that he doesn't seem to agree with it either.
More power to Blackford's elbow for calling Johnson out on the record for his lies, and having the backbone to refuse to withdraw his comments.
